Sexual Health and HIV Consultant

Are you a Consultant in Sexual Health and HIV Medicine looking for a part‑time opportunity? Sexual Health Dorset is seeking a Consultant to join the team at our East Hub in Bournemouth.
In this role you'll provide care and treatment for patients with sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and genitourinary conditions, deliver HIV outpatient care, and support the Wessex HIV clinical network for complex patients and advice regarding HIV inpatients.

Services provided by Sexual Health Dorset
* Two Integrated Sexual Health Hubs in Bournemouth and Weymouth providing sexual health, contraception and HIV services
* Satellite clinics for integrated sexual health in Blandford, Bridport, Poole and Shaftesbury
* In‑reach sexual health services to three Dorset prisons and provision of HIV services to the two prisons based on Portland
* Sexual Health Education and Outreach Service (SHEOS) – young people aged 13‑19 years
* Dorset Working Women’s Project (DWWP) – sex worker outreach
* Associated clinical services including an early medical termination service at the Bournemouth Hub
* Training to local healthcare professionals, including DCSRH
Main duties of the job
* Provide treatment, care and clinical expertise for patients with STIs, genitourinary conditions and HIV, including medical termination of pregnancy
* Actively contribute to the development and implementation of the sexual health and HIV integrated model
* Provide clinical input and advice for HIV inpatients admitted to Royal Bournemouth Hospital, University Hospitals Dorset Trust (UHD) as part of the HIV team
* Contribute to a triumvirate model of shared leadership between medical leads, nursing leads and service management
* Undertake managerial and administrative roles as required, in consultation with senior management
* Contribute to all aspects of clinical governance; safeguarding, audit, demonstrable clinical outcomes and clinical excellence
* Contribute actively to all aspects of the Trust’s affairs
* Manage directly or indirectly the medical staff, including job planning

Person Specification
Management Skills
* Understand the importance of working with managers in the interest of good patient care
* Able to prioritise work as needed
* Evidence of management/Leadership skills training
* Previous management experience including that of other junior medical staff
Leadership Skills
* Understanding principles of leadership and give examples of leadership in own practice
* Able to provide clinical leadership to a multi‑disciplinary team
Clinical Governance
* Understanding the importance of Clinical Governance in NHS organisations and its impact on patient care
* Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy and legislation
* Understanding of own strengths and weaknesses and how these attributes affect professional functioning
* Understanding of the stresses involved in being a consultant and how to manage these appropriately
Supervision of Junior Medical Staff
* Knowledge of requirements for supervision and appraisal of junior medical staff
* Approved educational supervisor training
Research and Audit
* Experience of carrying out an audit project
* Experience or involvement in a research project and publication
* Ability to supervise junior medical staff and/or other MDT staff to undertake research projects
* Published audit project
* Ability to critically appraise published research
