We are looking to hire an Engineering Shift Leader to support our food manufacturing operations by ensuring the smooth running of our production equipment and processes. This role is critical in leading a team of engineers to maintain, troubleshoot, and improve machinery efficiency, minimizing downtime and ensuring production targets are met.

This role is essential to maintaining high production standards, reducing downtime, and supporting the overall success of our manufacturing operations.

Location: Poole

The role follows a Panama shift pattern, which consists of a mix of 12-hour day.

This means employees work an average of 3 or 4 shifts per week, alternating between two weeks of day shifts (5:15am – 5:15pm).

General Responsibilities and Expectations:

Ensure all engineering work carried out in ALL areas, meets the standards set out in the SHE policy and under the guidance of the Engineering Policy

Report any deviation to Policies AND raise any potential risks via the SHE Escalation Process

Make use of the Take Two system to dynamically Risk Assess all activities PRIOR to starting the task

Make use of the Permit to Work and RAMS systems for any high-risk activity onsite

Follow site contractor control procedure, for the management of contractors, which will include:

* Meet and greet
* Diary checks
* Permits to work, risk assessments and method statements
* GMP in line with company policy
* Sign off completed work
* Escort off site (where applicable)

Quality and Food Safety:

* Ensure all engineering work carried out in the production areas meets the requirements of the Quality and Food Safety policies and procedures.
* Complete Engineering Hand back Documents for ALL intervention work as identified within the Engineering Policy
* Ensures engineering workshops are maintained and audited on a regular basis and kept in a clean and auditable state.

Production and Processing:

Demonstrate knowledge of:

* Raw materials
* Production processes
* Manufacturing costs
* QC processes and procedures
* Other manufacturing techniques

Maintenance System:

Operate and maintain a concise computerised maintenance management system (CMMS) for production and site services that will include:

* Asset register
* Safety risk assessment
* Machine settings
* Critical parts list
* Condition monitoring, autonomous, preventative and predictive maintenance routines
* Completed work orders
* Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) – Creation and Completion of.
* Concise Handover Documentation to be supported with clear communication face to face.

Reactive Maintenance

When issues arise in the production process or on a production line, ensure that the company escalation procedure is followed. It is expected that you will support other members of the Engineering team out of office hours, with logical decision making on Engineering issues, when required.

Work Orders

Every Task, however small MUST have a work order raised. This is to ensure that we capture all work carried out by the department.

Training and Development

* Attend training courses as required.
* Partake and when relevant, deliver technical training to the production team members with the emphasis being on one-point lessons on the key pieces of equipment.
* Work with new employees within the department to a structured on-boarding, sharing knowledge and experience with the other team members.
* Initiate and contribute to drive continuous improvement activity in both Engineering & Production department projects.
* Work closely with the production team using continuous improvement methodologies to focus / prioritise problem solving efforts to improve asset performance.

Internal Customer Service

* Demonstrate in actions and attitude that Engineering is a support function to all Functions within Poole Bakery.
* Engage in issues and provide support where required for the overall benefit of the Company.
* Monitor the performance of equipment when running and discuss any issues and improvements with other departments within Poole Bakery.

Engineering Leader Stand In

* Stand in when required for any of the Engineering Leaders to cover holiday, training, sickness, or as requested. Including but not limited to: –
* Attend all meetings as requested.
* Generate reports for Engineering Meetings
* Delegate work to Engineering Team members
* Report on and escalate Engineering related issues

Engineering Drawings and Literature:

* Follow complex electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical assembly drawings to ensure the prompt identification of production equipment faults
* Identify and Alter drawings where difference or changes have been made – hand drawn alterations are acceptable but MUST be countersigned by the Head of Engineering
* Keep records of drawings and version numbers to ensure the latest versions are being always used

* Work as part of the wider group of Engineers within Compleat Food Group, collaboratively and supportive to all sites when the need arises.
* Hold themselves to a very high standard and does not accept below par from anyone else within the department. Remembering that guidance rather than accusation is always the best course of action.

Education

* Time Served Apprenticeship
* Strong written, numerical and verbal skills
* Proficiency and fluency of English language (oral and written)
* Computer proficiency in MS Office and CMMS systems

Technical

* Specialisation in either mechanical or electrical engineering
* Demonstrates knowledge of engineering legislative requirements
* Ability to fault find on:

o PLC/computer controlled equipment

o Servo motors and drives

o Hydraulic powered systems

o Pneumatic control systems
