Job Title
Band 6 Mental Health Nurse
Location & Contract
* North West Edinburgh: 1 x 36 hours – fixed term 12 months
* Secondments may be considered
About the role
Edinburgh City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) is undergoing a period of transformative change to improve access to mental health and wellbeing support for people. We are looking to welcome enthusiastic registered Mental Health Nurses with a keen interest in adult mental health and working in the community into our Thrive Welcome Teams.
There is a multi‑disciplinary and interagency approach. The teams have been co‑designed to deliver accessible, short‑term, mental health interventions; working with adults aged 18‑64 in Edinburgh. People engage with the teams for a variety of reasons such as acute mental health distress and self‑harm, anxiety, depression and neuro‑developmental diagnosis. Challenges and strengths may include employment status, housing situations, community connectedness or social isolation. Individuals are assisted to build their own self‑agency and are linked, where suitable, to services in the wider community. The team use the Thrive model and utilise approaches that are asset based; solution focused and use motivational interviewing delivered in a trauma‑aware and trauma‑skilled way.
The nursing role has a particular focus on utilising professional skills to support risk assessment/management and responses as well as liaising with wider mental health service colleagues where appropriate. Nurses will be utilising evidence‑based psycho‑education, skills courses, person‑centred assessment, proactive interventions, self‑management strategies and supports to enable people to manage their mental health and well‑being.
Required Qualifications
* Registered Mental Health Nurse with a keen interest in adult mental health and working in the community.
* PVG Scheme membership/record for the required regulatory group (i.e., child and/or adult).
Legal and Other Requirements
To work in the United Kingdom, you must demonstrate that you have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service. Further information on what NHS Scotland Boards are required to check and your responsibilities can be found in the further information for this vacancy.
Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check. If the post is assessed as a “regulated role”, your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. Any change to the current requirement will be confirmed by either the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team.
Equality and Accessibility
We will fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long‑term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.
