Internship Program
The Baker Hughes Internship is designed to enable students either pursuing a Bachelors' or Masters' degree or recently graduated to gain hands‑on work experience as the foundation of their professional lives. Our internships will give you first‑hand insights into the processes, systems, and practices that are aligned to ensure customer needs are met through flawless execution and the application of leading‑edge technology.
You will participate in focused training, team meetings, work on projects, and present your results. During your internship, you will be supported by a buddy and your manager who will ensure you have a valuable learning experience. You can expect coaching and mentoring to enable you to complete assignments and projects and develop your learning and skillset.
You will also become familiar with the Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) culture of Baker Hughes and our strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Lean Engineer
As part of the Flexible Pipe Systems Offshore team based in Newcastle, UK, you will join an established business and team with expertise in pipe design, manufacturing, and installation. We are seeking a motivated, detail‑oriented Lean Engineer to drive continuous improvement initiatives and drive change.
Responsibilities:
* Conduct thorough assessments of current processes to identify inefficiencies, waste, and areas for improvement.
* Implement and promote lean tools and techniques such as Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Kaizen, Kanban, TPM, and Root Cause Analysis.
* Oversee and coach Daily Lean Management routine across different functions.
* Develop and improve tracking tools, dashboards, and templates to support Operational Excellence.
* Educate and train employees on lean principles and practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
* Work closely with cross‑functional teams, including production, quality, supply chain, and engineering, to drive operational excellence and enhance overall performance.
* Build capability in developing and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of lean initiatives and ensure sustained improvements.
* Utilize data analysis and problem‑solving techniques to address operational challenges and implement sustainable solutions, and drive functions to adhere to problem‑solving techniques through Daily Lean Management.
Qualifications:
* Have a bachelor's degree in engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing, or a related field.
* Have proven experience in a lean engineering or operational excellence role for at least 3 years, preferably within a manufacturing or production environment.
* Have a strong understanding of lean principles, methodologies, and tools.
* Have excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make data‑driven decisions.
* Have effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
* Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with lean software tools e.g., Minitab, Tableau, PowerBI.
* Have strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
