Overview
Senior Electrical Technician role at UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. You will lead projects on the site-wide electrical distribution network, taking ownership of installations, modifications, fault finding, repairs, and improvements to LV/HV equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. You will work with the project manager to deliver high-quality results on time and within budget, providing clear technical direction to internal teams and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
* Take full ownership of plant faults and work packages, delivering technically robust solutions that meet safety, quality, and cost requirements.
* Manage work on the site distribution network, and prepare/maintain engineering procedures, risk assessments, method statements, and local rules to support UKAEA operations.
* Design, specify, procure, install, commission, and operate assigned electrical systems, equipment, and subsystems safely and effectively.
* Authorize and supervise electrical work, lead multidisciplinary teams (staff, contractors, ASWs), act as First Reporting Manager or Contract Project Manager, and coach/mentor junior technicians.
* Build and maintain positive collaborations with internal teams, external contractors, international laboratories, universities, suppliers, and professional networks.
Qualifications
* Demonstrable knowledge of large industrial distribution networks
* Excellent working knowledge of legislation, codes of practice, British Standards, and industry best practice
* L3 National Vocational Qualification in a relevant electrical discipline with substantial industrial experience
* BS7671 18th Edition
* City & Guilds 2395 or equivalent (Testing & Inspection)
* HNC/HND Qualification in Electrical Engineering
* High Voltage and Low Voltage Authorised Person
* Experience with generator and UPS systems
* IOSH Managing Safely / NEBOSH
Requirements
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) process, including Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.
Working arrangements
