Position: Head of Psychology
Salary: £80,000 / annum
Shifts Pattern: 37.5 Hours a week

Role Overview
An exciting leadership opportunity to oversee and develop psychological services within a medium-secure care environment. This senior role combines clinical practice, team leadership, service development, and strategic collaboration to ensure excellence in psychologically informed care.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and develop the psychology department, ensuring consistently high standards of clinical and professional practice.
* Manage a clinical caseload and deliver formulation-led care, including individual psychological assessments and interventions such as EMDR, DBT, CBT, and CAT.
* Work closely with the senior management team — including the Hospital Director, Director of Clinical Services, and Medical Director — to drive service development and quality outcomes.
* Provide consultation on psychological aspects of organisational functioning, including staff wellbeing and creating a psychologically informed culture.
* Deliver reflective practice groups, contribute to clinical governance, and embed trauma-informed psychological practices across the service.
* Lead on clinical and organisational project management, offering training, supervision, and mentorship to the psychology team.
* Ensure robust clinical governance, adherence to service standards, and ongoing service evaluation and innovation.
Required Qualifications & Experience
* Doctorate in Clinical, Counselling, or Forensic Psychology (HCPC/BPS accredited) with current HCPC registration.
* Extensive experience in forensic or complex mental health settings, including leadership roles within psychological services.
* Proficiency in psychological assessment, formulation, and delivery of multiple therapeutic modalities (e.g., EMDR, DBT, CBT, CAT).
* Strong knowledge of clinical governance, safeguarding legislation, equality and diversity, duty of care, and mental health standards.
* Demonstrated leadership, consultancy, and project-management skills with the ability to supervise staff and drive service-wide change.
Desired Attributes
* Experience in trauma-informed care and service configuration or reconfiguration.
* Track record of delivering reflective practice, training, and staff support to multi-disciplinary teams.
* Experience with audit, research, or service evaluation to support evidence-based service improvement.
