The Quality Assurance Department at the GSK Ware Pharma Supply Chain site is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of product manufacturing are performed in a controlled manner, meeting commitments to international regulatory bodies and current Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.
The Microbiology Laboratory team collaborates with Site Value Streams to ensure manufactured products are compliant and fit for purpose. Responsibilities include product analysis, laboratory investigations, and trend analysis of microbiological results.
Job Purpose:
This role involves performing analysis and sample collection, supporting process or environmental monitoring using various microbial and chemical techniques. The Lead Microbiologist should be proficient in microbiological techniques, supporting the Laboratory Team Manager by providing expert analytical services to ensure product compliance. The role includes troubleshooting, identifying remedial actions, overseeing batch testing and release, and guiding the microbiology team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Prepare and verify data according to company, customer, and regulatory standards.
2. Verify the accuracy of results to meet acceptance criteria.
3. Lead in the batch/job approval process.
4. Manage site Continuous Improvement initiatives.
5. Maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation, resolving issues and promoting best practices.
6. Provide training for new starters and microbiologists.
7. Ensure safety within the laboratory.
8. Conduct testing using aseptic techniques.
About You:
The ideal candidate is motivated, experienced in a GMP environment, with strong interpersonal skills, team collaboration, and good communication. Knowledge of microbiology testing techniques, especially within GMP, and understanding of microbiological requirements for pharmaceuticals are essential. A continuous improvement mindset and commitment to standardization and lean practices are also important.
About Ware Manufacturing Site:
Located alongside R&D, the site features a state-of-the-art oral solid dose facility, producing over 60 million respiratory inhalers annually and processing APIs for internal and external use. The site fosters collaboration among scientists, technicians, and engineers to innovate and deliver medicines efficiently.

Basic Qualifications:
* Relevant qualifications or experience in microbiological testing and team management.
* Understanding of key microbiological methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Skills in microbial identification, including Gram staining, biochemical techniques, and MALDI-TOF speciation.
* Knowledge of cGMP and its impact on the role.
* Familiarity with laboratory software such as Sapphire/LIFT and M-ERP.
