Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Smoking Cessation Practitioner to be part of the integrated smoking cessation service in the BCUHB area. You will positively influence smokers who want support to quit. You will be responsible for providing intensive behavioural support and advice to clients who want to stop smoking. You will work effectively with other clinical staff and the wider HMQ team to ensure patients receive pharmacotherapy to support their quit attempts.
You will need excellent interpersonal skills and experience working with clients to make positive behaviour changes. You should also have excellent organisational skills and be able to maintain accurate, confidential client records. We are looking for someone willing to work flexibly and help develop the service. Further specific training in smoking cessation will be provided if required.
This role is available as a fixed term or secondment. It is a full-time position mainly within the HMQ Mental Health team across Conwy and Denbighshire.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification
Qualifications/Knowledge
* Recognised professional qualification in health or social care (e.g., RGN, Diploma in Counselling, CQSW, or a relevant degree) or equivalent experience.
Desirable qualifications include:
* Counselling qualification (e.g., Certificate in Counselling)
* Health Promotion qualification (e.g., Certificate, Diploma, Open University)
Experience
* Experience in client/patient-centred services in health or social care, or health education/one-to-one counselling on health issues.
Desirable experience includes delivering specialist smoking cessation support in a group setting.
Aptitude and Abilities
* Organisation and time management skills
* IT literacy, including Microsoft Office
* Record keeping and updating client files on bespoke databases
* Efficient planning skills
* Good interpersonal skills
* Understanding of client confidentiality principles
* Knowledge of health behaviour change strategies
* Understanding of clinical governance and safeguarding policies
* Knowledge of the local area
Desirable skills include group work, Welsh language ability, report writing, knowledge of health promotion theories, smoking cessation guidelines, and use of Quit manager.
