About the role:
We are looking for a DevOps Engineer to join the Enabling Functions team. You will be responsible for the development and support of an internally-developed data warehouse and self-service analytics platform. You will manage day-to-day operations, maintenance, and technical administration. You will support with the platform and deploy new features, support engagements across our client portfolio, both in the UK and globally. This is not a client-facing role, but a key element is a desire to improve the process and the solution by identifying and recommending any opportunities to extend, improve or add new functionality. You will collaborate with our development teams to help them deploy software, expand the platform, ensuring the end user experience is stable and secure and also create new ways to streamline and automate our processes.
Responsibilities but not limited to;
* Administer SQL Server installations that form the core of our analytics system
* Administer server estate, split across Windows and Linux
* Utilise and improve our software deployment pipelines
* Work closely with our development teams to improve their environments and remove blockers
* Engage with our support team to provide 3rd/4th line support for the platform
* Respond to alerts from our monitoring platform
* Log issues in our bug tracking software
* Escalate issues to our internal hosting and IT support team
* Pro-actively engage in the long-term maintenance of the platform, including proposing and implementing solutions for migrating to new platforms, improving our current practices etc.
* Work closely with the technical controls team to maintain the security of the platform and implement upgrades where appropriate.
* Support the working relationships between the DevOps team and key stakeholders in associated teams.
Essential Skills: Experience with the majority of the following is required:
* Microsoft SQL Server 2019 and onwards,
* Performance tuning, Debugging error states, Backups, Disaster recovery and Security
* Windows Server 2016/2019 administration
* Windows .NET service administration, including installation, editing app.config files and monitoring
* Experience using PowerShell to automate admin tasks
* Basic awareness of Active Directory concepts and enterprise network concepts
* Experience of working with technical support at vendors where required
Desirable skills:
* Administering a Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP stack
* Working with NuGet packages
* Configuring Octopus Deploy
* Working in a helpdesk environment
Deliverables
1. Ensure the day-to-day availability of the service
2. Provide production support for both on-prem infrastructure and the application.
3. Manage and maintain Windows/Linux servers, SQL Server installations, storage and physical hardware.
4. Carry out preventive maintenance, upgrades and patching, including coordination with global teams.
