We are looking for a dynamic, versatile, and highly organised Butchery Manager to lead our growing operation at Haye Farm.
Based on our organic farm in the heart of East Devon, our butchery is FSA and SALSA approved, supplying high-quality, whole-carcass butchery to both wholesale and retail customers. We are a small, family-run business with a strong ethos of regenerative farming, traceability, and quality – and we're looking for someone who shares our values and can take ownership of the butchery's day-to-day management.
The Role
As Butchery Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the full operation of the butchery, ensuring the highest standards of quality, hygiene, and efficiency. This role requires excellent leadership skills, a strong ability to delegate, and an eye for detail. You'll be hands-on in the butchery while also driving organisation, paperwork, compliance, and planning.
Key Responsibilities
* Leadership & Delegation: Manage and support the butchery team, ensuring tasks are clearly delegated and carried out to standard.
* Organisation & Planning: Oversee stock, production schedules, rotas, and workflow to ensure smooth daily operations.
* Quality Control: Maintain butchery standards, from carcass breakdown to customer-ready products, with strict adherence to specifications.
* Traceability & Compliance: Ensure full traceability across all products, completing all required paperwork accurately and on time.
* Food Safety & Hygiene: Uphold HACCP, FSA, and SALSA standards, leading by example in cleanliness and food safety.
* Collaboration: Work closely with farm, office, and delivery teams to ensure efficient communication and order fulfilment.
* Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to efficiency, product range, and working practices.
Requirements
* Proven butchery experience, with extensive knowledge of whole carcass breakdown and traditional techniques.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to delegate effectively and motivate a small team.
* Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.
* A proactive, flexible, and reliable work ethic.
* Excellent communication skills and confidence in paperwork, record-keeping, and compliance.
* A passion for quality, sustainability, and working within a regenerative farming business.
Hours & Pay
* 45 hours per week
* Pay dependent on experience.
