Senior Software Engineer role at Ooni. Ooni makes kick-ass pizza ovens for the backyard - think world-class pizzas cooked in just 60 seconds! As well as ovens, we’re building software to get incredible pizza to even more people. Our software engineering team is working on exciting new functionality across web and mobile. We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who can develop world-class software products, mentor our software engineering team, and champion best practices. Ooni has a hybrid approach to work, with a minimum of 3 days a week (Tuesday to Thursday) at our office at Edinburgh Park.
What youll do
* Lead the technical development of our Shopify ecommerce websites and the surrounding ecosystem.
* Lead delivery of new features, performance optimisations, integrations, and day-to-day enhancements, ensuring a world-class shopping experience for our customers.
* Collaborate closely with Product, Ecommerce, and Marketing teams to create exceptional customer journeys across our D2C sites.
* Write elegant, maintainable, and well-tested code following modern industry best practices. You’ll review code and have your code reviewed.
* Make and influence key architectural and technical decisions to ensure scalability, maintainability, and long-term platform health.
* Mentor and guide other engineers, fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
* Integrate and manage third-party tools and APIs to enhance site capability and business operations.
* Maintain and evolve custom Shopify themes, apps, Functions, and Checkout Extensibility features.
* Support conversion rate optimisation (CRO) initiatives, including implementing and iterating on A/B tests to continually improve performance.
* Participate in sprint planning and review meetings, ensuring development tasks are accurately specified and delivered on time.
* Stay up to date with Shopify platform updates and proactively identify opportunities to innovate and optimise.
What youll need to succeed
* 5+ years of professional software development experience.
* Proven experience in Shopify development, including Liquid, Storefront APIs, app development, and Functions.
* Strong frontend engineering skills with modern JavaScript, React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
* Experience with GraphQL and/or REST APIs, ideally within an ecommerce context.
* Familiarity with CRO principles and hands-on experience running A/B tests.
* Track record of leading web projects end-to-end, from stakeholder engagement through estimation to delivery.
* Comfortable with complex third-party integrations (e.g. search tools, authentication providers, and personalisation platforms).
* Strong understanding of ecommerce best practices and performance optimisation.
* Commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code with rigorous testing standards and fostering these principles in our engineering team culture.
* Demonstrable ability to learn new platforms, programming languages, and solve technical challenges.
* Experience mentoring or leading other developers is a plus.
* Bonus points for experience with accessibility, analytics, Shopify Plus features, or React Native.
