The Role
An opportunity has arisen within the Paediatric Physiotherapy Service based within Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow for a band 7 Physiotherapist in the Respiratory Team. The post holder will be the Clinical Lead for physiotherapy input to the Scottish National Chest Wall Service based at RHC Glasgow. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in the development and evaluation of physiotherapy input for this group of children and young people with chest wall deformities. We require a forward‑thinking, versatile and self‑motivated physiotherapist with significant clinical experience. You will be a team player with relevant experience and an interest in the interaction between postural control and the respiratory system. You must be able to demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills when working with children, young people and their carers. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a dynamic physiotherapy service and play a crucial role in the development of the paediatric chest wall service.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
* This is a permanent full‑time post working 36 hours per week. On call/emergency, evening, weekend and public holiday duties will be required as part of this post.
* Based at Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow, 1345 Govan Road, G51 4TF.
* The shift pattern is Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities
* To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the physiotherapy management of patients in your care. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for patients under your management and to support more junior staff to do likewise.
* To support the training of on‑call physiotherapy staff to ensure competence in carrying out evening and weekend emergency on‑call duties.
* To demonstrate in‑depth practical and theoretical knowledge of clinical governance issues including risk management, evidence‑based practice, audit and research methodology and to incorporate this into clinical practice.
* To provide clinical leadership for specialist paediatric physiotherapists and support workers.
* To become competent in carrying out evening and weekend emergency on‑call duties out with your own area of expertise, e.g. Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
* To undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients using investigative and analytical skills to form accurate diagnosis and prognosis in a wide range of highly complex conditions. To formulate individualised treatment plans using clinical reasoning and utilising a wide range of treatment skills and options to formulate a specialised programme of care and to develop comprehensive discharge plans.
* To have a good working knowledge of neurological problems, e.g. cerebral palsy, since these patients will frequently present with respiratory complications.
