Technical Adviser – Role Overview
We are recruiting a Qualified Surveyor to join the Litigation and Technical Policy Team as a Technical Adviser. This role offers the chance to provide technical leadership in local taxation, working within a team passionate about their work and collaboration.
You will handle unique and technical cases, collaborating with solicitors and barristers, and advising on legal and technical issues. Responsibilities include managing litigation cases such as Tribunal hearings, appeals to the Upper Tribunal, and proceedings in the High Court. You may also act as an advocate for the Valuation Officer / Listing Officer.
This leadership role provides an opportunity to manage high-profile cases independently, resolving complex and sensitive issues with autonomy.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage litigation cases, including Tribunal hearings, appeals, and High Court proceedings, potentially acting as an advocate.
* Resolve complex cases using analytical skills.
* Develop technical and procedural guidance, fostering consistent understanding.
* Research, analyze, and evaluate issues, identifying options and risks.
* Identify, escalate, and manage risks, surfacing trends and issues.
* Deliver technical updates and presentations to build capability within VOA.
* Travel occasionally within the UK for liaising, tribunal hearings, and presentations.
* Support technical development and change initiatives, including reforms and system transformations.
