Restorative Dentistry 15 hours (2 days)
An opportunity has arisen within the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital to recruit a part time Staff Dental Hygienist to work as part of the Restorative Dentistry team. Charles Clifford Dental Services is a regional dental teaching hospital which provides specialist services.
Successful applicants will join the dental team, providing all aspects of dental hygiene care to patients referred to them. Candidates should have first class communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to undertake dental health promotion and to deliver education in maintenance of oral hygiene.
Successful candidates should possess the Diploma in Dental Hygiene/Diploma in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy or equivalent.

Main duties of the job
* To receive and prepare patients prior to carrying out periodontal procedures, to undertake these procedures and supervise and monitor the patients during treatment. To ensure the patient is fit and able to leave the hospital after treatment (which may involve supervising the patient outside of normal working hours until an escort or suitable transport arrives).
* To reassure and inform the patient about their treatment and its possible outcomes being aware of body language and cultural difficulties and dealing with these in a sensitive and appropriate manner, showing empathy at all times.
* To ensure the proposed treatment plan is valid, relevant and in the patient’s best interests.
* To treat patients with complex social and medical needs.
* To treat patients who are undergoing or have undergone oncology treatment.
* Where necessary liaise with consultants from medical and dental teams to coordinate safe treatment of patients with complex needs.
* To deal with abusive patients in an appropriate and polite manner.
* Give specific and detailed pre and post operative advice to patients in relation to their periodontal treatment including oral hygiene, smoking cessation and dietary advice.
* To carry out the full scope of practice as defined by the GDC for a Dental Hygienist and as requested by the prescribing clinician.

Experience
* Experience of dental health promotion and education
* Experience of non-surgical periodontal management of Stage III and IV and rapidly progressing periodontal disease.
* Experience of managing patients with complex medical histories and management needs.
* Experience of non-surgical management of peri-implant disease
