We are seeking a skilled and experienced Imports and Exports Supervisor to support the Imports and Exports Manager in overseeing our global shipping operations. This is a key leadership role focused on ensuring the smooth, timely, and compliant movement of goods from China, Bangladesh, India, and Cambodia to markets worldwide, with a strong emphasis on meeting the demands of our e-commerce business.
The successful candidate will provide day-to-day operational support, manage and develop team members, and act as the department lead during the Manager’s absence. This requires excellent communication, solid knowledge of shipping methods, customs procedures, freight forwarding, and the ability to motivate and supervise a team to deliver results.
Familiarity with customs clearance requirements in major e-commerce markets (e.g., USA, EU, UK).
Key Responsibilities
* Support the Imports and Exports Manager in the daily management of all import and export operations.
* Supervise and develop team members involved in shipping coordination, ensuring clear task allocation, guidance, and performance management.
* Oversee and track international shipments to ensure timely delivery and alignment with e-commerce fulfilment requirements.
* Coordinate with suppliers in China, Bangladesh, India, Cambodia, and other sourcing regions to ensure shipping readiness, compliance, and quality standards.
* Manage bookings with freight forwarders and carriers for sea freight, air freight, and courier services, negotiating competitive rates where appropriate.
* Review and manage shipping and customs documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with destination country regulations.
* Liaise with customs brokers to facilitate smooth and timely clearance processes.
* Communicate shipping schedules, challenges, and updates clearly to internal stakeholders, including e-commerce, procurement, warehouse, and finance teams.
* Identify and resolve shipment delays, customs issues, and other logistical challenges promptly and professionally.
* Assume full leadership responsibility for the department during the Manager’s absence, maintaining service levels and operational continuity.
* Maintain accurate shipping records and contribute to continuous process improvements that enhance efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and customer service quality.
Essential Requirements
* Proven experience in import/export management, international logistics, or freight forwarding, ideally in an e-commerce environment.
* Demonstrated experience supervising or managing staff, with the ability to lead, motivate, and develop team members.
* Solid understanding of shipping methods, including sea freight, air freight, and courier services.
* Knowledge of customs procedures and regulatory requirements for key global markets.
* Experience working with suppliers and manufacturing partners in Asia, particularly China, Bangladesh, India, and Cambodia.
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners.
* Strong organisational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
* Proactive approach, with the ability to work independently, make decisions, and take responsibility for outcomes, particularly when deputising for the Manager.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and logistics/ERP systems.
Desirable Qualifications
* Knowledge of Incoterms and Harmonised System (HS) codes.
* Familiarity with customs clearance requirements in major e-commerce markets (e.g., USA, EU, UK).
* Experience managing shipments for online marketplaces and direct-to-consumer channels.
* Exposure to international supplier management and freight cost optimisation.
