We are looking for two enthusiastic Consultant Anaesthetists to join our friendly team, working in a fantastic area of the country between the South Downs and the Sea.
Our anaesthetic department is dynamic and has an excellent reputation for teaching, research and innovation as well as an excellent exam success rate. We have a flourishing and well respected MTI programme. The successful applicants will have the opportunity to hone and expand their clinical skills across a broad range of specialties with the opportunity to develop services within University Hospitals Sussex and our partner organisations.
Main duties of the job
* Provision of elective clinical anaesthesia across a wide range of specialties (sub‑specialty interests encouraged), including Major colorectal, General surgery – incl. non‑tertiary upper GI, Gynaecology, Breast, ENT (incl. cancer diagnostic work and routine paediatrics), Urology (incl. nephrectomy), Maxillofacial, Ophthalmology ECT, General Day Surgery Procedures, Preoperative assessment.
* Provision of emergency workload (1:12), non‑resident on‑call supporting General theatre and Obstetrics residents/SAS grade doctors, and liaison with a separate Critical Care Consultant cover for out‑of‑hours service.

Person specification
Experience and qualifications
* Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview; if you trained in the UK, you must also have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Anaesthesia or equivalent or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date.
* FRC/MRC specialty – e.g. FRCS, MRCP, etc. or its recognised equivalent.
* Masters level degree in clinical education.
* ATLS/APLS/ALS.
* Regional anaesthesia.
* MRCP or equivalent.
Clinical skills and experience
* Broad experience in all aspects of anaesthesia and acute pain.
* Experience in anaesthesia for trauma and obstetrics.
* Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues.
Knowledge
* Breadth of experience both within and outside the specialty.
Organisation and planning
* Experience and ability to work in multi‑professional teams.
* Evidence of managerial skills and achievements or courses attended.
Teaching skills
* Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching.
* Recognised teaching qualification.
Academic and research
* Evidence of participation in audit.
* Research experience.
* Publications.
* Prizes and honours.
* Appropriate progression of career to date.
