Senior Staff Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner - Scrub

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse/Operatign Department Practioner - Scrub to join the Operating Theatres team at Moorfields Eye Hospital, City Road.
The successful candidate will be an experienced and highly motivated practitioner with excellent communication skills, strong clinical leadership, and a clear commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care within the ophthalmic theatre environment.
You will be a registered practitioner (RGN/ODP) with demonstrable evidence of continuing professional development and advanced scrub experience in ophthalmic surgery. As a senior staff nurse, you will provide expert specialist ophthalmic nursing care, acting as a role model and clinical resource to junior staff while supporting safe, effective perioperative practice.
The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning and delivery of specialist scrub care, undertaking complex ophthalmic procedures and contributing to the wider perioperative pathway. You will also support service delivery through leadership, supervision, and the promotion of best practice within theatre teams.

Main duties of the job
Professionally accountable and responsible for the provision of high-quality care and a safe environment for patients within their delegated clinical area.
Organise all human and physical resources in the delivery of clinical care, attempting to problem solve, but being mindful of the need to *escalate* to the Clinical Lead for Anaesthetics as appropriate.
The assessment of care during the perioperative and postoperative period.
The development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care including discharge planning from the theatre suite for each patient.
To provide skilled assistance to the Anaesthetists and Surgeons in the Operating Department.
Have the skills, knowledge and expertise to be able to take appropriate action when dealing with emergencies.
To successfully complete ILS and PILS training.

Job responsibilities
To be a role model to junior colleagues in the delivery of patient care.

Education and Qualifications
* NMC/HCPC Registration
* Recognised Clinical Teaching Qualification or willing to work towards
Experience
* Evidence of team coordinating and management
* Experience in undertaking Preceptor/Mentor role
Skills
* Positive attitude to change with proven ability to assist senior staff in the implementation of change and practice development
* Understands importance of audit and able to apply process to improve nursing practice
* Evidence of excellent communication skills including verbal, non‑verbal and written
