We seek candidates (either in discovery research or clinical research) for two-year positions as Transition Fellows in Cardiovascular Sciences at the British Heart Foundation Manchester Centre of Research Excellence (CRE). These Fellowships will provide support (personal salary, access to scientific support posts, and consumables) for successful candidates to prepare, within the timeframe of the funding, applications for externally funded personal Fellowships to take the next step towards their scientific independence.
Prospective Fellows aiming at BHF Early Career Fellowships (0-4 years post PhD at application), or BHF Future Leaders Fellowships (4+ years post PhD), or similar schemes run by other funders are all encouraged to apply. You will have a trajectory of scientific achievement commensurate with the scheme for which you intend to apply at the end of the two-year Transition Fellowship.
You will develop your research in an area that aligns with one or more of the five Research Themes of the Manchester CRE: Cardiovascular Genomics and Development; Heart Failure; Cardiovascular/Cerebrovascular Inflammation; Data Science; and Computational Cardiovascular Medicine. You will benefit from mentorship by key CRE stakeholders working in the appropriate Theme. We have an excellent track record of success in developing both clinical and non-clinical colleagues to their scientific independence.
As part of your application we will require a 2-page outline of your proposed external fellowship, together with details of the specific objectives (eg key preliminary data) required prior to the external submission, that you plan to achieve during the CRE fellowship.
