What We’re Looking For
Senior Project Engineer responsible for the successful planning, execution and delivery of engineering projects, from conception to completion. The role requires strong technical expertise, proven project‑management skills and the ability to lead cross‑functional teams.
Your Responsibilities
* Project Management: Lead Capital and Revenue projects ensuring timely delivery within budget and agreed criteria. Prepare proposals, manage purchases and oversee installation and commissioning. Serve as primary contact, providing regular updates to senior management.
* Technical Leadership: Guide project teams and provide expert advice on new equipment, processes and technical problems. Review and develop engineering standards for new equipment and testing.
* Strategic Planning: Support the Project Engineering Manager in developing a 5‑year capital plan. Conduct feasibility studies and deliver budget estimates to inform investment decisions.
* Compliance and Safety: Ensure all projects comply with quality, health & safety and environmental standards. Build safety and quality standards into every project.
* Contractor and Financial Management: Manage contractors and collaborate with legal and procurement teams to prepare contracts for major purchases. Authorize contractor selection for capital contracts up to £20,000 and installation costs up to £1,000.
* Continuous Improvement: Lead projects focused on continuous improvement and efficiency, enhancing site operations and reliability.
What You’ll Bring
* A degree‑level qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Packaging Engineering, with at least five years’ experience in an FMCG setting.
* Project‑management training (APM or PMP) and familiarity with Agile and traditional methodologies.
* Hands‑on, analytical mindset with strong problem‑solving skills and a self‑motivated approach to complex projects.
* Experience managing budgets and using financial software for cost control. NEBOSH or IOSH qualification required.
* Knowledge of ISO9001, ISO14001 and BRC quality and safety standards.
* Leadership and communication skills for managing internal teams and external contractors.
* Ability to manage commercial aspects of projects and keep them within budget.
* Experience coordinating external experts when specialist knowledge is required.
