NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and roles. The role:

You will provide a service to Renfrewshire Mental Health Inpatient Wards at Dykebar Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital and Leverndale Hospital. Your base will initially be in one of these sites, though you may be required to rotate to another site. Applicants must be able to work in any of the three sites. You will provide care to patients with a wide range of mental health conditions, including care for adults and older adults as part of the multidisciplinary team. You should have knowledge and experience working with people with mental health illnesses. It is essential you are a NMC registered nurse and you must have a live NMC UK pin. The post requires PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland checks. The position is full‑time 36 hours per week, with part‑time hours also considered. The shift pattern is rotational, long days from 07:00 am to 19:30 pm and night duty from 19:00 pm to 07:30 am.


Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

* Location based in Dykebar Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital & Leverndale Hospital.
* Permanent contract.
* Full‑time position (36 hours per week).
* Shift pattern: long days 07:00‑19:30 and night shift 19:00‑07:30, 3×3 shifts per week with 1 week of 4 shifts within an 8‑week period.


Key responsibilities:

* Function as the named nurse within a multi‑disciplinary team for a defined patient group.
* Undertake the nursing process: assessment of care needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
* Carry out risk assessment and contribute to risk management planning in consultation with the multidisciplinary team, in compliance with NHSGGC policy and procedures.
* Carry out all relevant forms of nursing care pertinent to the individual needs of people within the defined patient group.
* Identify and respond to the health promotion needs of patients, focusing on improving mental and physical well‑being.
* Identify and respond to needs related to vulnerability, gender health, domestic abuse, child protection and/or self‑harm.
* Work within agreed competency‑based parameters to undertake evidence‑based psychological therapies / psychological approaches to care with individuals and/or group settings where required.
* Work in partnership with patients and carers using values‑based practice to formulate and deliver person‑centred care, promoting and supporting mental well‑being and prevention of relapse.
* Ensure that professional practice (and that of others, including Healthcare Support Workers to whom duties have been delegated) adheres with the NMC Code, legislation and relevant Acts.
* Support the Senior Charge Nurse in maintaining robust clinical governance of the ward/department, including communication, leadership, policy compliance, clinical audit, research activity, evidence‑based practice and safety.


Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required:


Essential

* Registered Mental Health Nurse – Level 1 NMC registration.
* Educated to or actively working towards minimum degree level or equivalent experience.
* Working knowledge and application of mental health nursing care including physical healthcare.
* Evidence of active and ongoing CPD.
* Evidence of clinical supervision / reflective practice.
* Working knowledge of mental health / mental illness / wellness and recovery.
* Working knowledge of rights, values‑based practice and legislation frameworks.
* Evidence of using digital technology / information systems / email and basic applications.


Desirable

* Completion of an evidence‑based psychological therapies / psychological approaches to care programme.
* Completion of a mentor preparation programme / registered mentor.
* Post Registration Career Development Framework evidence of pillars of practice at Level 5 (or equivalent), including:
o Clinical practice – safe, effective, person‑centred care
o Facilitation of learning
o Leadership – applied
o Research and development
* Experience of working in an inpatient environment.
