Maintenance Technician
Location: Aylesford, KentType: Full-time, PermanentShift Pattern: Rotating / site-based
Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Technician to join a busy manufacturing/production environment. The role involves maintaining, repairing, and improving both production and facility equipment in line with current legislation, health & safety standards, and site maintenance systems. You’ll play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, minimising downtime, and supporting production operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and routine equipment checks
* Diagnose faults and respond promptly to site breakdowns
* Perform reactive and proactive maintenance to minimise downtime
* Support production teams as required to meet operational demands
* Complete weekly site inspections and maintain accurate maintenance records
* Carry out equipment installations and modifications in line with current regulations
* Ensure compliance with food hygiene and food safety standards at all times
* Liaise with contractors and chaperone visitors when required
* Maintain high standards of housekeeping across work areas and workshops
* Monitor spare parts stock levels and report requirements
* Participate in continuous improvement activities
* Ensure clear communication and effective handovers between shifts
* Undertake any additional reasonable duties as required
Skills & Experience Required
* Relevant engineering qualification (minimum NVQ Level 2 or 3 / Engineering NC)
* Electrical or mechanical bias (multi-skilled preferred)
* Electrical competency (e.g. 18th Edition desirable)
* Experience working in a manufacturing, food, or production environment
* Confident using hand and power tools
* Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable (but not essential)
* PLC and drive experience
* Plumbing or HVAC knowledge
* Ducting, pipework, or ventilation experience
* Metalwork and TIG welding (stainless steel) experience
