Responsibilities
* Specialist lead for children and young people presenting at the hospital with mental health, behavioural, and emotional issues in the Emergency Department, Paediatric Unit, and adult wards for ages 16-17.
* Collaborate with relevant disciplines, accountable for decision making, clinical practice, care planning and intervention.
* Ensure joined‑up, seamless care and service provision for vulnerable children and young people.
* Develop knowledge and skills of staff across the Trust to support safe, high‑quality, evidence‑based care throughout attendance, admission, discharge and follow‑up care planning.
* Lead development and delivery of the children and young people’s mental health agenda, ensuring timely, robust assessments and referrals in line with current policy and NICE guidelines.
* Lead on development of processes and procedures for children and young people presenting in the Emergency Department or admitted onto the Paediatric Ward with mental health, behavioural and emotional needs.
* Support Paediatric services across the organisation to plan/organise actions to maximise health, including multi‑disciplinary/agency referrals and discharge planning, working closely with community services.
* Maintain a highly visible clinical presence and provide on‑the‑job education, teaching and advice.
* Evaluate additional training needs and deliver training to enhance the knowledge and skills of staff across the Trust.
* Act as specialist lead for hospital staff in the care of vulnerable children and young people, ensuring efficient and effective engagement across services.
* Work closely with mental health services to support Paediatric and Emergency Department staff in facilitating safe discharge planning and ensuring timely follow‑up arrangements are in place and agreed by all relevant agencies.
Requirements
* Eligible for an enhanced DBS check (cost £54.90, deducted from first Trust salary).
