About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive SEND school based in St Ives, Cambridgeshire. This is a full-time position and an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and making a positive impact on their educational and personal development.
The successful candidate will support pupils with a range of needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning difficulties, and social, emotional and communication needs, helping them to access learning and develop essential life skills within a nurturing and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide targeted support for pupils with SEND on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
* Assist teachers with the planning and delivery of personalised learning activities
* Support pupils' social, emotional and behavioural development
* Help pupils engage with learning and develop confidence and independence
* Work closely with teaching staff to implement behaviour management and support strategies
* Monitor pupil progress and contribute to observations and reporting
* Support effective classroom management to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment
* Contribute positively to the pastoral and wider development of pupils within the school
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience working with children with SEND, ideally within a school or support setting
* Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant is desirable
* Understanding of strategies to support autism, communication needs, and learning difficulties
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
* A proactive and flexible attitude towards supporting pupils' needs
