Occupational Therapist - Acute Respiratory and Rehabilitation Team

We are looking for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist who is proactive and enthusiastic, and interested in advancing their career on the Band 6 ladder. The role is a full‑time, 8‑month fixed term post supporting the Acute Respiratory and Rehabilitation Team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital during a maternity leave.
Main duties of the job
* Provide a high standard of intervention across the specialty as an autonomous practitioner.
* Work independently as part of an integrated rehabilitation service, applying advanced clinical reasoning for individualised, proactive, and holistic assessment and treatment planning.
* Support and develop rotational Band 5 therapists.
* Supervise therapy support staff and educate therapy students on placement.
* Take part in innovation and quality improvement projects to enhance the Acute Medicine team.
Qualifications / Training and Professional Development
* B.Sc. in Occupational Therapy (3‑year) or M.Sc. in Occupational Therapy (2‑year) or Diploma in Occupational Therapy (3‑year)
* Health and Care Professions Council registration
* Current driving licence
* Practice Educator Course and ability to supervise under‑graduate Occupational Therapists
* RCOT membership
Experience
* Experience working within acute medical and surgical specialties.
* Experience as part of a multidisciplinary team within the NHS.
* Experience in acute occupational therapy, including home/environmental assessments.
Skills, Abilities and Knowledge
* Strong clinical reasoning skills.
* Knowledge of neurology, human anatomy and physiology.
* Knowledge of appropriate equipment to enhance engagement in occupation.
* Ability to prioritise and delegate workload and work in a pressurised environment.
* Understanding of the role of Occupational Therapy in rehabilitation.
* Specialist knowledge of Occupational Therapy Assessments and Interventions, including standardised assessments and evidence‑based practice.
* Management of a varied acute caseload with patients with complex multi‑morbidities and frailty.

This post requires a Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 check and a Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) check to confirm no previous criminal convictions.
Salary: £39,959 to £48,117 per annum, pro rata.
