We are looking for a Radiographer who is a qualified Mammographer with considerable experience to take a Clinical Excellence role within Breast Imaging. You will be part of a team who support each other and take pride in delivering excellent care.

The role is primarily a clinical one and you will spend your working day undertaking mammography and mammo-based procedures. You will also take responsibility for elements of planning, demonstrate leadership, help to standardise procedures, create efficiencies and promote best practice as a single, integrated unit based on three sites. Building relationships and encouraging co-operation are important parts of this role.

Opportunities will arise to train in Advanced Practice, such as Imaging Interpretation and Interventional Procedures, and you will be able to apply for these in a competitive internal process as part of this role.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 7 Radiographer in Mammography, you will provide a high quality and responsive Mammography service to patients as part of a multi-disciplinary team within Breast Imaging. Working to a very high technical standard and responsible for your own work, you will liaise closely with other team members to ensure the appropriate imaging is provided in a timely manner where it is needed.

Working primarily in the Symptomatic service, you will also be called upon to provide Screening and Screening Assessment as part of a Service Level Agreement from Barts Health to Central and East London Breast Screening Service (CELBSS). The Post Holder should be familiar with and will take part in Breast Screening Quality Assurance.

Undertaking clinical work within established quality standards, adhering to the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations (IRMER) and Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRR). You will ensure that safe practice is carried out in accordance with local protocol.

You will acquire, maintain and expand an excellent level of skill and knowledge in all aspects of breast imaging. You will supervise, support and train Student Radiographers, Radiographers (i.e., Trainee Mammographers) and Assistant Practitioners, encouraging them and assisting in their professional development.

You will maintain positive professional links with medical and non-medical staff within the unit to promote the highest service standards and collaborative working.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Hold DCR(R) or BSc Hons degree (or equivalent) in Diagnostic Imaging.
2. Current and up-to-date Registration with the HCPC
3. Recognised additional specialist training equivalent to Master’s level plus practical experience: Breast Imaging Theory and Practice
4. Evidence of substantial CPD in clinically related and relevant subjects

Desirable criteria

5. Certificate of competence in venous cannulation and administration of contrast agent
6. Recognised Post Graduate qualification to Masters Level in Interventional Procedures of the Breast
7. Recognised Post Graduate qualification to Masters Level in Image Interpretation of the Breast
8. Recognised Post Graduate qualification to Masters Level in Ultrasound of the Breast
9. Recognised Post Graduate qualification in Practice Education

Experience

Essential criteria

10. Significant post graduate experience in Radiography
11. Substantial previous experience of Mammography and other techniques to be competent to : • adapt to individual patient anatomy to produce specific standard and nonstandard mammographic views. • enable training of junior staff and students
12. Experience of a range of Mammographic procedures
13. Experience of clinical audit
14. Experience of service improvement
15. Previous experience of participation in research projects
16. Experience of setting up Breast Biopsy equipment
17. Experience of imaging core biopsy and surgical excision specimens, often requiring physical handling of fresh specimens.
18. Previously undertaken Breast Screening Quality Assurance
19. Experience of supervising staff.

20. Experience of working within a Breast Screening Service
21. Experience of Tomosynthesis
22. Experience of Contrast Mammography

Knowledge

Essential criteria

23. An excellent level of skill and knowledge in all aspects of breast imaging to include technique and procedures, supplemented by short specialist courses.
24. Working Knowledge of Ionising Radiation Regulations
25. Good understanding and knowledge of NHSBSP and Quality Assurance Programme
26. Evidence of CPD, including attendance at relevant short course & study days.
27. Experience with clinical audit, research and quality assurance.Awareness of NHS targets and pathways that affect Radiology.
28. Up to date knowledge current and emerging issues in Breast Imaging and Breast Cancer treatment
29. Knowledge of clinical governance
30. Knowledge of Service Improvement methodology
31. Knowledge of how to undertake a risk assessment
32. Experience/ working knowledge of PACS
