Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Emergency Department team as a Patient Flow Assistant. The role supports the Nurse and Consultant in Charge with the safe and timely flow of patients through the department. This is a full‑time position covering a 24/7 period. Availability to work varied shifts, including nights and weekends, is required.
Responsibilities
* Ensure that there are up‑to‑date plans for all patients > 2 hours.
* Ensure clerking is up‑to‑date in real time.
* Cross‑reference all patients in the Emergency Department to ensure that all referred patients are on the tracker.
* Accurately input Bed Booked times.
* Record referral times to specialties and specialty outcomes accurately.
* Ensure coding is completed by a clinician prior to discharge and the patient is removed.
* Gather information prior to each safety huddle and complete the template accurately.
* Monitor and report IPS breaches to area leads, clinical staff and the nurse in charge, and work to support achievement of IPS.
* Liaise with Diagnostic Services.
* Follow up and highlight available clinical reports to clinician/nurse such as CT reports and lab results.
* Book porters for patient transfers.
* Answer phone calls and, under the direction of the nurse in charge, respond to or redirect calls as appropriate.
* Contribute to creating a high‑performance, continuously improving environment by proactively identifying patient pathway delays and highlighting them to the necessary team.
Person Specification
Essential
* Good standard of education including 5 GCSEs or equivalent.
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
* Evidence of ongoing personal development.
* General administrative experience.
* Experience of dealing with members of the public face‑to‑face and over the telephone.
* Excellent organisational skills.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Ability to prioritise work.
* Ability to follow a procedure or instruction and give feedback to senior staff.
* Ability to work with minimal supervision.
* Ability to remain calm when the department is experiencing extreme pressures.
Desirable
* ECDL or other IT qualification.
* Hospital IT systems experience.
* Knowledge of Trust and Departmental NHS targets.
* Medical terminology.
* Familiarity with the emergency department Electronic Patient Record system.

Location: Blackpool Victoria Hospital, Whinney Heys Road, Blackpool, FY3 8NR, United Kingdom.
Contract: Permanent.
Salary: £25,760 to £27,476 per year, with enhancements for out‑of‑hours work.
Working pattern: Full‑time, 24/7 shifts.
