The Opportunity
A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a skilled Automation Service Engineer to support its expanding service division. You’ll play a vital role in delivering 24/7 support, troubleshooting, upgrades and small automation projects, ensuring client operations remain efficient and reliable.
We would also welcome applications from professionals within manufacturing, process industries, utilities, energy, and defence.
This role would suit candidates working as Automation Engineer, PLC Engineer, Control Systems Engineer, SCADA Engineer, Commissioning Engineer, Service Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Instrumentation Engineer or Systems Integrator.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
Diagnose faults on automation systems by working with a range of PLC/PC software tools and programming devices.
Remotely connect to client platforms (PLC/SCADA/PC) to identify and resolve issues on unfamiliar systems in real time.
Carry out system health checks, backups, data recovery and hardware replacements.
Survey automation installations to assess obsolescence risks and provide clients with upgrade and adoption strategies.
Make minor code modifications and hardware changes to PLC systems, ensuring production continues smoothly, and deliver small PLC/HMI/SCADA projects.
Assist sales colleagues by providing technical input, equipment selection and costed solutions.
Observe production processes to recommend improvements, reduce downtime and identify root causes of system failures.
Ensure all site work complies with company safety standards and prepare detailed risk assessments and method statements.
Adhere to internal processes and quality systems at all times.
You will have the following qualifications and experience
HNC/HND or degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Control Systems, or an equivalent qualification/apprenticeship.
Proven background in commissioning or maintenance with strong multi-vendor PLC fault-finding skills (e.g. Siemens, Rockwell, Omron, Schneider, Mitsubishi).
Solid understanding of electrical systems and industrial networks, including the ability to analyse network health and provide recommendations.
Eligible for, or able to obtain, UK security clearance (SC/CTC).
Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team, with a keen interest in developing expertise in new technologies.
