Hays are working with one our clients on the position of an IT Support Engineer, the below is a breakdown of the role and its responsibilities.
The job role is responsible for assisting the Technology Manager in the management, installation, maintenance, availability and security of existing and new hardware and software technology throughout the organisation, and ensuring staff know how to access and utilise the technology relevant to their role.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain essential IT operations, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, email systems, laptops, desktops, tablets, software, and hardware
• Handle business-critical IT tasks and systems administration
• Research and evaluate emerging technologies, hardware, and software
• Track and maintain inventories of hardware and software.
Specific Duties (General)
• Optimise, maintain and manage the technology environment and network in a manner that delivers high efficiency along with the required resilience
• Develop and maintain a clear framework of IT policies, standards and strategies that will assist staff in accessing and using the technology provided
• Understand General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) principles and ensure these are incorporated into the framework of IT policies and procedures
• Prepare and maintain a complete list of technology equipment and software within the organisation, and carry out periodic audits to track the same to ensure the status, current location and usage remains as planned
• Maintain relationships with technology partners, including help desk functions provided by third parties
• Ensure network components meet the needs of the system and work together seamlessly
• Research and stay current on new IT equipment and solutions
• Ensure efficient technology working practices through uniform processes and procedures across the organisation
• Ensure efficient and effective technology and internet access for all groups of users
• Organise troubleshooting or repairs when necessary for all IT and technology equipment
• Take time to read notices, keep to deadlines and carry out duties as effectively and efficiently as possible
• Attend meetings as required.
• Disaster Recovery and Security
• Identify security threats, and formulate strategies and methods to mitigate those threats
• Develop and maintain procedures for data backups
• Maintain user security through hardware or software installation or through training.
• Responsibility, in conjunction with the Commercial Director, for the IT infrastructure and its commissioning
• Dissemination of the IT policy documents and procedures, and facilitating appropriate IT training for staff prior to the Home opening.
• Assisting with the training of new staff
• Liaise with management and trainers on the training of employees on new software and hardware, to troubleshoot, and provide technical support when needed
• Liaise with management and trainers to identify the technology requirements, support and training for new employees.
Other general duties include:
• Promote and support the organisations ethos of best practice in health care
• Positively promote the organisation through professional personal conduct both in and out of working hours
• Ensure that you have read and understood all relevant organisation policies and procedures and that you, yourself, comply with these at all times
• Attend and participate in training sessions and staff meetings as required. These may take place within any company location, at home, at head office or an outside venue
• Maintain good working relationships with all colleagues at all times, and fostering the same approach within other staff, so that an atmosphere of harmony and working together prevails
• Embrace the organisations approach and tone of management style, so that people feel comfortable in your presence, and feel able to speak freely
• Undertake any other duties which are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the Commercial Director or other Directors
Health and Safety

• Carry out all duties in a safe manner having regard to Health and Safety and the welfare of staff, Residents and other persons
• Ensure a safe environment is maintained at all times when using, reviewing, installing or updating technology in any areas.

Working Conditions
• Working hours in this role will most often take place between 9am and 6pm, but there will be periods when your approach to working will need to be more flexible. Extra hours will be required at certain times to meet deadlines.
• An undetermined proportion of your time will be spent working in the Homes, so travel is a common aspect of the role and it will sometimes be necessary to work away from home.
