Trainee Colposcopy Nurse

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of the gynaecology department specialising in colposcopy within the Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust.
We are seeking an experienced gynae nurse willing to train in colposcopy and work working across both sites at The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and our other Shrewsbury Hospital site. The successful candidate will be employed as a band 6 and will become a band 7 upon completion of training and becoming a BSCCP accredited colposcopist.
In this role you will work autonomously, undertake an independent practitioners led diagnostic and therapeutic role using your highly advanced clinical judgement. The role includes facilitating, enabling and supporting the development of the service based on best practice ensuring delivery of high quality, compassionate, effective and efficient care within the Colposcopy Service.
Main duties of the job
Colposcopy Practitioner: The Colposcopy service functions with a multidisciplinary team approach to patient care.
The Colposcopy practitioner will:
* Work as part of the team ensuring that the SaTH Colposcopy Service is run efficiently and in accordance with Local and National Guidelines.
* Maintain membership of the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP)
* Maintain knowledge and experience consistent with the recommendations of the BSCCP.
* Maintain advance specialist skills to undertake full diagnostic and therapeutic Colposcopy, including examination and treatment. This will require a high level of skills in manipulation of fine instruments and carry out their duties with dexterity and precision.
* Facilitate and promote service change within the Colposcopy department promoting evidence based medicine with a view to improving the quality of care, as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Advise patients and staff in all aspects of care provided.
* Work as an autonomous and independent decision making practitioner within the clinic and whilst managing histology and cytology results and letters.
* Provide a specialist led service incorporating the day to day management of this role to ensure the demands of the service are met.
* Ensure that up to date written protocols and guidelines are in place for the service and that these include recommended national guidelines.

Person Specification
Essential and desirable
* NMC registered
* 3 years of clinical experience in Women's Health as a Registered Nurse
* Evidence of continuous professional development
* Evidence of leading a team
* Computer literacy and excellent time management
* Able to concentrate and undertake clinical analysis
* Ability to function Autonomously
* Participation in audit
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Demonstrate experience as a BSCCP accredited Colposcopist
* BSCCP Accreditation in both diagnostics and therapeutics
* Recent significant Gynaecology experience
