Senior / Principal Transport Planner – Major Projects

Role
As a Senior / Principal Transport Planner, you will work across the UK in the delivery of transport, traffic and related infrastructure projects, including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) and Development Consent Orders (DCOs).
Responsibilities
* Undertake Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Environmental Statement Transport Chapters, Construction Traffic Management Plans and Travel Plans, playing a hands‑on role in client and local authority scoping discussions.
* Lead technical discussions around the accessibility of project or construction sites for a wide range of modes, articulating impacts and mitigations required for planning approvals.
* Work in a multi‑disciplinary environment, proactively collaborating with adjacent disciplines such as noise and air quality, ecology, and highway teams.
* Take ownership of delegated tasks such as preparing fee estimates and proposals for review by Project Managers and Directors.
* Upskill to work across other transport workstreams such as communications and engagement, supporting a balanced workflow for the local team.
* Represent WSP values while delivering high‑quality work to clients.
* Keep up to date with relevant standards and policies; network and attend conferences as appropriate.
* Ensure projects are delivered to budget, programme, and technical standards.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience of scoping reports, transport assessments and environmental statement transport chapters.
* Experience delivering transport planning projects and knowledge of relevant guidelines and standards.
* Familiarity with local authority transport plans and strategies; experience in transport feasibility studies, option assessment reports and business case inputs.
* Strong numerical, spatial and analytical skills; excellent working knowledge of MS Office.
* Ability to produce high‑technical standard reports and technical documents.
* Ability to communicate technical arguments to technical and non‑technical clients, presenting outputs to audience ranges.
* Knowledge of current transport policy at sub‑regional, regional and national level.
