A Mental Health School in Newbury is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to work with vulnerable students aged 4 to 18 who have social, emotional, and mental health needs. This role offers a valuable opportunity to gain experience supporting young people, especially for those aspiring to become child counsellors in the future.
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will support students with special educational needs (SEN) and various social, emotional, and mental health challenges. Some students may have experienced adverse childhood experiences, requiring a Learning Support Assistant who can help identify and address their needs while providing pastoral care.
Your responsibilities include helping students overcome learning barriers, building self-esteem, social skills, and emotional resilience. You will implement positive behaviour strategies alongside the class teacher and multi-therapy teams, motivating students to make appropriate choices.
This role will equip you with essential skills for future training as a Child Counsellor—such as behaviour management, emotional support, and active listening. You will play a key role in providing consistency and empowering children and young people to feel safe, secure, and confident in their potential. The position is ideal for graduates in Psychology, Sociology, Counselling, or Criminology.
