Employee Relations Manager, Employee Experience & Relations UK&IE

Amazon, Manchester, England, United Kingdom

At Amazon, we’re working to be the most customer‑centric company on earth. To get there, we need exceptionally talented, bright, and driven people. The Employee Relations Manager role requires significant employee relations experience, deep subject‑matter expertise, and strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. These competencies enable the individual to work independently to manage a broad spectrum of ER issues and collaborate with employees and partners across Amazon’s wide geographic and cultural scope.

Central Objectives

* Ensure our organization’s treatment of every employee is fair, respectful, and consistent with our core business values, policies and objectives as we strive to be Earth’s Best Employer.
* Support that objective by falling into proactive and reactive categories.
* Partner with senior managers and People Experience & Technology (PXT – HR in other companies) teams to create and sustain positive employee relations programs and best practices.
* Facilitate employee listening sessions/focus groups and design and deliver training programs.
* Analyze large amounts of quantitative and qualitative data to identify root causes, recognize patterns, and develop creative, innovative solutions for complex problems and develop effective executive‑level messaging, reports and presentations to PXT and business leaders.
* Work proactively to enhance the employee experience by identifying and addressing employee concerns early, de‑escalating and resolving workplace issues before they reach a level of criticality requiring reactive efforts.
* Act as a project manager on proactive initiatives that improve employee relations and engagement.
* On a reactive basis, undertake a significant amount of work on critical ER issues that are highly sensitive and typically can only be successfully completed with limited time.
* Balance time between proactive efforts and urgent response.

The position reports to the Head of Employee Experience and Relations UK and Ireland, within the Employee Experience and Relations team at Amazon. It is a full‑time position that will require some travel, up to 30% of the year, mainly in the UK and Ireland but occasionally in Europe. Due to the nature of the travel, the base location is flexible within the UK.

Key Job Responsibilities

* Conduct and oversee employee relations and vulnerability assessment programs.
* Analyze, diagnose, design, and revise people programs, policies, and practices to sustain positive employee relations.
* Define, develop, and maintain the existing arrangements for collective consultation and communication as required for the ongoing evolution of the business, in compliance with UK Employment Law and Amazon ER policies.
* Act with a sense of urgency, a bias for action, and a desire to thrive in a dynamically growing environment.
* Conduct reviews of employment policies to ensure alignment with Amazon’s objectives and compliance with employment law.
* Take ownership and play a supporting role in significant ER projects.
* Participate in national and international projects.

Basic Qualifications

* Experience in employee relations, functional human resources or labor/employment law.
* Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree, law degree, or other specialized training in employee relations is a significant plus.
* Experience and solid understanding of UK employment and labor laws.
* Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite systems including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

* Strong interpersonal and persuasion skills, enabling the individual to establish partnerships and work collaboratively across management levels and personalities to influence senior leadership, stakeholders, peers and employees at all levels across a large, dispersed and culturally diverse organization.
* Proven problem‑solving and analytical skills in an ambiguous environment with the capacity to work autonomously to manage competing priorities simultaneously while driving projects to closure.
* Demonstrated ability to successfully navigate complex, international organizational structures.
