Job Summary:
The Cryptocurrency Specialist provides expert support in management, financial oversight, and analysis of blockchain-based digital assets following seizure. This role serves as the internal subject-matter authority on cryptocurrencies, NFTs, security tokens, and other digital asset classes, ensuring correct handling, tracking, valuation, reporting, and regulatory compliance. The Specialist evaluates and interprets blockchain activity for accounting and financial purposes, maintains validated inventory records, supports government policy development, and advises cross-functional stakeholders on the proper treatment of digital assets throughout the forfeiture lifecycle.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
* Provide deep expertise in digital asset management and blockchain technology post-seizure, guiding correct handling and regulatory treatment of digital assets.
* Maintain current knowledge of digital asset trends, regulatory developments, and industry best practices through professional engagement, networking, and research.
* Support government policy development, compliance assessments, financial modeling, and accountability protocols for seized digital assets.
* Serve as the internal expert educating finance, accounting, and legal teams on digital asset accounting and reporting requirements.
* Advise on blockchain innovations and emerging platforms that may impact the valuation and disposal of seized and forfeited assets.
* Oversee accounting and financial management of digital assets, ensuring transactions are recorded in accordance with accounting standards.
* Monitor and track the movement of digital assets across government platforms, identifying and mitigating discrepancies or irregularities.
* Analyze blockchain-based transactions to ensure accurate recording and reporting of digital asset activities.
* Interpret technical blockchain data and convert it into accounting-relevant outputs for financial review.
* Maintain the accuracy of digital asset inventory records, including audits, reconciliations with DOJ's Consolidated Asset Tracking System (CATS), and tracking attributes such as type, quantity, market value, transaction fees, and forked assets.
* Prepare clear written reports for government leadership summarizing valuation status, portfolio fluctuations, reconciliation results, and anomalies.
* Lead or participate in special projects related to digital asset management, security, technology trends, and program modernization.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills:
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field.
* One or more digital-asset certifications are preferred (e.g., Certified Blockchain Professional or equivalent).
* Ten (10) years of experience in a related field.
* Experience in financial accounting with a focus on digital assets preferred.
* Experience using crypto accounting software and blockchain explorers strongly preferred.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
* Deep understanding of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency accounting practices.
* Ability to analyze digital-asset transactions, determine financial impact, and resolve discrepancies.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
* Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage large portfolios of digital-asset data.
* Ability to collaborate with finance, accounting, legal, and investigative teams in a federal environment.
* Proficiency in digital-asset platforms, distributed-ledger tools, crypto-investigative utilities, and Microsoft Office.
Clearance:
Applicants selected may be subject to a government background investigation and may be required to meet the following conditions of employment.

* Must be a U.S Citizen
* Residency requirement: 3 consecutive years within the past 5 years.
* Favorable credit check for all cleared positions
* Successfully passing a background investigation including drug screening.
