Senior specialist audiologist - harrogate

Job overview

We have an opportunity for a Band 7 Specialised Audiologist at Harrogate Hospital.

The role will involve:

1. Providing an expert clinical audiological, diagnostic and rehabilitation service for adults with hearing loss, tinnitus and hyperacusis.
2. Communication of more complex information with respect to rehabilitation for adults who present with obscure auditory symptoms related to their hearing problems, which are more complex or non-specific.

Main duties of the job

Auditory Rehabilitation

3. Assess the general auditory (re)habilitative needs of hearing-impaired adults with respect to their audiological status, communication skills and social needs.
4. Formulate appropriate management strategies for adults based on this information, including advising patients on communication strategies, hearing aids (including appropriate referral to the cochlea implant clinic), assistive listening devises, providing lip reading and auditory training where appropriate.
5. Undertake aural impressions for adults working within national and Departmental protocols
6. Assess the benefit derived from hearing aids using subjective and objective measures including information methods, appropriate questionnaires, and insertion gain measurements.
7. Provide ongoing assessment and maintenance for adult hearing-impaired patients.
8. Provide tinnitus support (training will be provided if needed).

Diagnostic Audiological Assessment

9. Perform pure tone, impedance, and speech audiometry testing, advising patients and referring clinicians on management plans based on information obtained from these as appropriate.
10. Perform more advanced test procedures.
11. Recommend further investigations as required, either referring to the appropriate member of staff or carrying out the procedures if appropriately trained.
12. Maintain practical knowledge of other forms of Audiological testing (steady state and distortion products).

Experience

Essential criteria

13. Experience in specialist role, including the management of a range of specialist conditions, with substantial evidence of additional knowledge acquired through formal and informal clinical supervision.
14. Evidence of ability to lead and act as an authority on the management of complex clinical presentations in specialist area.
15. Substantial experience of assessment and provision of specialist equipment
16. Significant experience of delivering clinical treatment within specialist area.
17. In-depth understanding of current issues in health care Standards of Professional Practice

Desirable criteria

18. Highly experienced in the identification and use of outcome measures to evaluate clinical treatment
19. Highly developed specialist clinical skills within relevant area
20. Significant experience of training/supporting others (including students) within specialist clinical area.
21. Evidence of having led the delivery of relevant audit/research projects.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

22. AHCS (RCCP) Registered or HCPC registered clinical scientist.
23. Evidence of relevant CPD activities
24. Post graduate qualification relevant to post and clinical specialty
25. Evidence of significant post graduate training within specialist area.

Desirable criteria

26. Practice placement supervisor qualification.
27. Evidence of enhanced communication skills and the ability to use different communication methods and styles, relevant to specialty.
28. Evidence of significant personal development in relevant specialist area
29. Knowledge of and experience of auditbase
