Overview
Consultant Geriatrician with a specialist interest in Oncology to join The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. The post is within the Supportive Oncology Directorate, focusing on improving quality of life and holistic care for people living with and beyond cancer.
Responsibilities
* Conduct consultant-led outpatient Senior Adult Oncology (SAO) clinics and support the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) for complex older patients with cancer and frailty, including those starting or undergoing anti-cancer treatments; focus on frailty, multimorbidity, and polypharmacy.
* Establish an Acute Frailty and inpatient liaison service to support the patient\'s primary oncology team during admissions for selected cases.
* Deliver Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments (CGA) as part of a multidisciplinary approach to inform treatment decisions and optimise outcomes.
* Provide clinical supervision, support, and education to junior doctors and Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
* Maintain effective communication and coordination with the Oncology Team, ensuring shared decision-making and seamless care planning for older adults with complex needs.
* Note: The postholder will not be responsible for making oncology treatment decisions; those decisions remain with the Oncology Team, with registrar and consultant-level input as required.

Job Description
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Full GMC registration within the specialist register with a license to practice as Geriatrician (or eligible for full registration within 3 months of interview)
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to UK CCT in Geriatric Medicine
* On the UK specialist register via CCT (within 6 months of interview) or CESR
* Experience caring for complex older patients; acute care experience; expertise in frailty, CGA, and discharge planning
Desirable Qualifications
* Oncology experience; rehabilitation experience
* Higher degree (MD, PhD) or equivalent
Training
* Training in care of complex older patients
* Desirable: training in care of cancer patients

* Experience of clinical audit and quality improvement
* Experience in team management; evidence of teaching and supervision
* Evidence of clinical leadership skills; ability to lead a team
