Job overview

The Anaesthetic Department at Kent & Canterbury Hospital is looking to recruit dynamic, forward‑thinking clinicians. The hospital performs vascular surgery, major urology, robotic surgery, elective orthopaedics and a variety of day‑surgery specialties including dental, ENT, general surgery (paediatric), ophthalmology, interventional radiology, MRI and endoscopy. Emergency theatre cover is provided daily and regional anaesthesia is a core component of our service.

Critical care is delivered in a six‑bed ITU and a four‑bed HDU, supported by dedicated Intensive Care Clinicians and Anaesthetists. The department is involved in education, audit and research projects as required.


Main duties of the job

Provide safe anaesthetic care across a broad spectrum of surgical lists at Kent & Canterbury Hospital, with opportunities to work at other Trust sites based on experience, preference and clinical need.

Deliver anaesthetic services in 5 main operating theatres, 2 day‑surgery theatres, 2 endovascular theatres, an ophthalmic theatre and a 4‑theatre elective orthopaedic unit. Support the MRI suite, endoscopy unit and intravenous line insertions.

Engage in upper and lower limb ultrasound‑guided regional anaesthesia and participate in the delivery of major arthroplasty day cases using advanced regional block techniques. Potential involvement in the pre‑assessment service and education of medical students, junior doctors and other clinical staff in theatres.

Qualifications and training

* FRCA or equivalent
* Full GMC registration
* CCT/CESR Specialist Registration or to obtain within 6 months of interview date
* Fellowship in airway, regional anaesthesia or paediatric anaesthesia


Skills and experience

* Experience working within the NHS
* Wide experience of adult and paediatric anaesthesia


Clinical governance

* Evidence of involvement in audit, QI and governance processes
