The GPSupport Unit (GPSU) has been established to provide support to general practicein Somerset. This exciting new role will drive service delivery improvementsand system enhancements within practices and PCNs across Somerset. In this roleyou will collaborate with GP practices, PCNs, and key partners to identifydigital priorities and challenges, promote innovation, implement new technologysolutions and optimise existing systems. You will also build strongrelationships with system providers and stakeholders, manage projects, andfoster continuous improvement in utilisation of digital technology in generalpractice in Somerset.


Main duties of the job

Project & StakeholderManagement

Leaddigital transformation projects, ensuring timely delivery within scope andbudget

Collaboratewith stakeholders to identify opportunities, define project goals, and supportlocal transformation plans

Oversee ITproject execution, tracking risks, issues, and progress

Build andmaintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders

Service Delivery &System Support

Review and adviseon system support, compliance standards, and best practices for digitalcontinuity and disaster recovery

Ensurecontinuous availability and improvement of clinical systems e.g., EMIS Web

Facilitatestaff learning sessions to improve system usage and digital competencies.

Optimisedigital service contracts to meet agreed standards.

Collaboratewith vendors to resolve technical issues and maintain system performance.

Governance & Compliance

Ensurecompliance with Data Security and Protection Toolkit DSPT and DigitalTechnology Assessment Criteria DTAC

Maintaindocumentation on project actions, risks, and clinical safety signoffs

Data & Reporting

Supportdata-driven improvements by optimising digital tools for reporting andanalysis.

Promotestandardisation of coding, data sets and metrics to track progress

About the Role: Drive service delivery improvements and system enhancements withinpractices and PCNs across Somerset. Collaborate with GP practices, PCNs, and keypartners to identify digital priorities and challenges, promote innovation, implement newtechnology solutions and optimise existing systems. Build strong relationships with systemproviders and stakeholders, manage projects, and foster continuous improvement inutilisation of digital technology in general practice in Somerset.

Key Responsibilities:Project & Stakeholder Management:Lead digital transformation projects, ensuring timely delivery within scope andbudget.Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities, define project goals, andsupport local transformation plans.Oversee IT project execution, tracking risks, issues, and progress.Build and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders.Service Delivery & System Support:Review and advise on system support, compliance standards, and best practicesfor digital continuity and disaster recovery.Ensure continuous availability and improvement of clinical systems e.g., EMISWeb.Facilitate staff learning sessions to improve system usage and digitalcompetencies.

Contract & Vendor Management:Optimise digital service contracts to meet agreed standards.Collaborate with vendors to resolve technical issues and maintain systemperformance.Governance & Compliance:Ensure compliance with Data Security and Protection Toolkit DSPT and DigitalTechnology Assessment Criteria DTAC.Maintain documentation on project actions, risks, and clinical safety signoffs.Data & Reporting:Support data-driven improvements by optimising digital tools for reporting andanalysis.Promote standardisation of coding, data sets and metrics to track progress.Policy & Service Requirements:Work collaboratively and effectively as part of an integrated team.Stay up to date with National and Local legislation, guidelines, policies, procedures,protocols, and code of conduct related to the role.Participate in and contribute to the effective introduction of new systems andinitiatives leading to the improvement and development of patient services.

Person Specification


Planning & Organisation Skills

* Ability to facilitate and deliver project outcomes within defined timescales
* Ability to ensure projects or initiatives are delivered on time to quality standards and in a cost-effective manner, adjusting plans as required
* Ability to co-plan training delivery for a new solution that impacts on the whole ICS system


Responsibility for Human Resources and / or Training

* Ability to mentor others within the DDAT team and GP practices as appropriate
* Ability to inspire others through adoption of organisational values and behaviours


Experience

* Experience of delivering digital programmes in the
* healthcare or digital sector
* Demonstrated experience of working in partnership
* with large, cross-functional muti-disciplinary services
* and teams on transformation programmes, which
* clinicians and key stakeholders effectively
* Working knowledge of ethics and standards
* Additional post-registration knowledge through
* experience, and have undertaken a formal mentoring or preceptorship, to achieve a level of knowledge allowing autonomous working in a range of settings. including clinical safety, information governance, cyber security and information security
* Evidence of additional specialist skills and ability to
* provide advice, education or training to other
* professionals.
* Additional knowledge gained through experience to
* be able to be an autonomous adviser for a
* directorate, team or an equivalent subject area of
* responsibility.
* Additional knowledge of health service specific
* systems and procedures to be responsible for a
* particular project, service delivery or function gained
* through professional qualifications or experience
* Knowledge of a broad range of organisational
* policies, procedures, systems and practices to be
* able to provide advice to others
* Experience of working with GP practices to deliver transformation and change programmes, including knowledge of practice management systems e.g. EMIS Web and how these connect and interoperate

Qualifications

* Evidence of Continued Professional Development
* (CPD)
* A masters degree in a related subject or equivalent

* Evidence of ability to support and maintain stock control and asset management
* Previous experience of having acted as authorised signatory for small cash/financial payments

* Experience of having responsibility for the safe use of expensive or highly complex equipment


Responsibility for Policy and /or Service Development

* Experience of contributing effectively to future strategy and action plans


Communication

* Good communication skills, both written and verbally to all levels of staff and external colleagues
* Ability to communicate in well to accommodate both IT and non-IT colleagues
