DATA ENGINEER ROLE
Overview:
BirdsEyeView is an InsurTech venture based in London. They build Natural Catastrophe Modelling software for reinsurance and insurers globally, enabling modeling of floods, wildfires, cyclones, and more.
Their technology ecosystem includes climate data infrastructure, scalable product development, and machine learning data cleansing and ingestion, helping underwriters assess climate-change-induced natural catastrophes.
About the role
You will support the development of Natural Peril integration for the WEATHER ANALYTIX platform, providing climate and weather analytics to insurance partners to improve underwriting.
You will join a small team of scientists, developers, and insurance experts, impacting business applications and product development. This role is ideal for someone interested in climate data, technology development, and the insurance industry.
This position offers growth opportunities and involvement in various business areas.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support strategy and implementation for WEATHER ANALYTIX platform.
* Process meteorological datasets via partnership with the European Space Agency.
* Work with data science team to develop global wildfire, hurricane, tornado, lightning, earthquake, and flood models.
* Collaborate with Business Development to define and deliver new products and features.
* Select and implement suitable technologies for current and future needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, or related field; Master's preferred.
* 2+ years relevant experience in Data Engineering or Solution Architecture, preferably with AWS.
* Proficiency in Python for data manipulation and machine learning.
* Experience with large geospatial datasets.
* Understanding of web system architecture and development.
* Ability to work independently with strong project management skills.
Nice to Have:
* Experience with JIRA, Confluence, GitLab, AWS.
* Experience with ERA5/Climate Data.
* MLOps and DevOps practices knowledge.
* Understanding of the insurance market.
