Overview

A vacancy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust for an experienced, motivated, dynamic Registered Health Professional to join the Fracture Clinic Team.


Responsibilities

* Support the current management team in the running and development of the Fracture Clinic services.
* Use UHCWi methodology to identify areas for improvement, to enhance the patient journey and improve/maintain staff wellbeing and morale.
* Help maintain a safe environment for patients and staff by monitoring health and safety/risk assessments, ensuring effective roster management and day‑to‑day skill mix, performing local and Trust‑wide audits and acting on results.
* Work with wider teams within the Trust to support sickness absence, effective use of resources and finance, and provide a sound learning environment for students and learners.
* Accountable for own actions in accordance with governing bodies such as the British Orthopaedic Association and Nursing and Midwifery Council – Code of Professional Conduct.
* Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi‑professional team.
* Act as a skilled practitioner and clinical leader, providing support to the management team, participating in service/policy development, deputising in the absence of the clinic manager and leading the team.
* Support the management of clinical and operational processes within the Fracture Clinic, liaising with members of the multidisciplinary teams of all groups involved (Trauma and Orthopaedics, Emergency Department, etc.), identifying areas of service improvement and implementing improvements with the team.
* Ensure clinical assessment of patients in accordance with own qualification, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and audited. Provide patient advocacy where necessary.
* Organise and participate in cross‑departmental and organisational activities including HR, sickness management, resourcing and bleep‑holder responsibilities.
* Demonstrate high technical and/or practical clinical skills, to ensure optimum patient management, including complex patient monitoring, wound management, medicines management, safeguarding procedures and equipment maintenance.
* Develop and educate staff and students through supervision, mentorship and appraisal; monitor mandatory training compliance.
* Manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring varying levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need.
* Support patients, carers and others during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, including imparting bad news or following an unexpected event.
* Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy; support the development of local risk assessments.
* Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control; use audit tools to monitor this.
* Order and maintain stock levels within the Fracture Clinic, liaising with materials management and participating in product evaluation and research.
* Support the management of staffing roster using the e‑roster system, ensuring a safe, effective skill mix and staffing levels.
* Utilise and ensure self and others utilise information and IT systems effectively to record patient information and outcomes accurately and timely.
* Support and carry out local, Trust‑wide and national audits in a timely manner, analysing results and formulating action plans with the management team to maintain and improve standards to meet KPIs.


Qualifications

* Currently hold or be willing to complete the British Orthopaedic Association and British Casting Certificate.
* Current registration with relevant professional body (e.g., Nursing and Midwifery Council).
* Immunisation and vaccination report to be provided from current UK occupational health provider or UK GP.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers and multi‑professional teams.
