Job Description An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Depute Head Teacher to join the central Additional Support Needs team which has been reviewed recently. The post provides applicants with the opportunity to be part of creating a new vision for the service, whilst leading outreach teams and support services to support schools and learners alike. The team consists of two provisions based in Elgin. Pinefield Project and Resource Centre provides an adapted curriculum for secondary aged pupils, with close working with the Youth Justice Team, and the Moray Adapted Curriculum within MAC Central (formerly East End Annex), which supports primary and secondary learners with a flexible and adapted curriculum personalised to need. There are also three Flexible Learning Resource teams, one within MAC Central to support central Moray and two outreach teams supporting East and West Moray. In addition to this there is a Deaf and Visual Education Team, an English as an Additional Language Team and a team of trainers providing professional learning aligned to the Moray Staged Intervention model. The service also has responsibility for Home Education, Flexible Education as well as any adaptations for individual learners. Reporting directly to the Head Teacher of Inclusion, Wellbeing and Adapted Curriculum this post will contribute to the strategic direction that is provided to the system to fully support all learners. The successful postholder will also work closely with the Principal Educational Psychologist, Virtual HT Care Experienced Children and Young People as well as the Quality Improvement Officer who has a lead role of Additional Support Needs. Prospective candidates who wish further information regarding this Depute Head Teacher role are invited to contact Claire Johnson, Head Teacher Inclusion, Wellbeing and Adapted Curriculum on Claire.johnson@moray.gov.uk Requirements  Specific Responsibilities “A Teaching Profession for the 21st Century” sets out the outline duties of a Depute Head Teacher as follows: The role of the Depute Head Teacher is to assist, and where necessary, to deputise for the Head Teacher in the conduct of the school’s affairs. General Areas of Responsibility: “A Teaching Profession for the 21st Century” sets out the outline duties of a Head Teacher: The role of the Head Teacher is, within the resources available, to conduct the affairs of the school to the benefit of the pupils and the community it serves, through pursuing objectives and implementing policies set by the Education Authority under the overall direction of the Head of Education (Chief Education Officer). The Head Teacher shall be accountable to the Education Authority for the following list of duties as can reasonably be attached to the post: • responsibility for the leadership, good management and strategic direction of the school • responsibility for school policy for the behaviour management of pupils • the management of all staff, and the provision of professional advice and guidance to colleagues • the management and development of the school curriculum • to act as adviser to the Parent Council and to participate in the selection and appointment of the staff of the school • to promote the Continuing Professional Development of all staff and to ensure that all staff have an annual review of their development needs • working in partnership with parents, other professionals, agencies and schools • to manage the health and safety of all within the school premises The Individual A relocation package of £5400 (exclusive of VAT) may be available for this post. This post is considered to be a ‘Regulated Role’ under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. Under the Act it is a legal requirement for an individual undertaking a regulated role with children or protected adults to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme. Therefore the successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to any formal offer of employment being made by Moray Council.
