Electrical and Automation Engineer
Role reports to: Design & Engineering Manager
Hours: 8.30am – 5.00pm Monday – Thursday, 8.30am – 4.30pm Friday
Location: Southampton
Salary: £35,000 per annum
Holiday: 25 days + 8 bank holidays

Key Responsibilities
System Design and Development
* Designing control systems based on specific requirements, including hardware selection, software development (Industrial PLC programming), and integration of different components.
Software Development
* Writing, testing, and debugging control software, typically in ladder logic
Hardware Integration
* Ensuring proper integration of sensors, actuators, and other hardware components with the control system
Troubleshooting and Maintenance
* Diagnosing and resolving issues within the control system, both hardware and software related, to ensure smooth and reliable operation
Safety Compliance
* Ensuring all designs and implementations adhere to safety regulations and standards
Skills and Qualifications
Control system design
* Produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules etc.
* Able to Read design specifications, functional design specifications and technical documentation
* Knowledge of British (BS) and European (EN) standards such as Identifying / interpreting customer requirements
* Knowledge of BS EN ISO 13849-1 (Safety of machinery —Safety-related parts of control systems) and BS EN ISO 60204-1 (Safety of machinery — Electrical equipment of machines)
Panel layout
* Able to design panel layouts for a range of systems, from simple panels to complete integrated systems
Proficiency in industrial programming
* Experience with various PLC platforms and a good understanding of Ladder logic programming is essential
* Experience with HMI configuration/software
* Knowledge of configuring AC & DC Variable Speed Drives / Inverters
* Understanding of IO-Link & ASI communication protocols
Proficiency in testing
* Ability to design and conduct testing on control panels / complete systems
Hardware knowledge
* Familiarity with sensors, actuators, and other industrial hardware components.
Design software
* Experience in using Autodesk products; Inventor, AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical
