Café & Community Centre Assistant
6-Month Fixed Term Contract, with Potential for Extension, Funding Dependent
Working Hours: Saturday & Sunday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
We are currently on the lookout for a friendly individual to fill the role of Café and Community Centre Assistant.
The ideal candidate should have a passion for community engagement, excellent social skills, strong time management abilities, and relevant experience in a similar position. A food hygiene qualification is preferred; however, full training can be provided.
Established in the 1960s, the Acorn Centre was built by the community as a venue for mixed youth clubs and community events. Over the years, we have expanded to include a sports hall and additional hireable spaces, transforming it into a vibrant hub for individuals of all ages. Our mission is to create an inviting environment where everyone feels included and valued. We offer a diverse range of events and activities, including youth clubs, social sports clubs and social gatherings, all aimed at enriching the lives of our community members.
As a Café & Community Centre Assistant, you will be instrumental in maintaining the warm atmosphere that our visitors cherish. Your positive demeanour and enthusiasm will be key in ensuring that every guest departs with a smile. You will collaborate with a team of dedicated staff and volunteers, all passionate about making a difference.

Responsibilities
* Prepare and serve a variety of food and beverage items, ensuring adherence to food safety standards.
* Operate coffee machines and other equipment, demonstrating barista skills to create high-quality beverages.
* Food preparation, including assembling sandwiches and other menu items as required.
* Provide excellent customer service by taking orders accurately and efficiently while engaging with customers in a friendly manner.
* Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the cafe area, including tables, counters, and kitchen spaces.
* Handle cash transactions and perform basic math calculations for order totals.
* Manage time effectively to ensure timely service during peak hours while maintaining quality standards.
* Setting up of hireable spaces
* Ensuring the cleanliness of the centre is adhered to
Experience
* Previous experience in a cafe or food service environment is preferred; barista experience is a plus.
* Knowledge of food safety practices is highly desirable.
* Strong time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also being self-motivated.

Pay: £12.21 per hour
