Clinical Leader - Emergency and Obstetric Theatres
Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Leader to join our current theatre team. This is a key leadership role, providing both clinical and managerial support to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, and patient-centred peri-operative care. Working closely with the Matron and Operational management team, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating theatre activity, leading the multi-disciplinary team, and ensuring efficient use of resources.
As Clinical Leader, you will act as a visible role model, fostering a culture of teamwork, integrity and professional development. You will be responsible for staff supervision, appraisal and training, as well as promoting evidence-based practice and supporting service improvements. Your leadership will ensure that patient safety, dignity and quality of care remain paramount, while also contributing to policy development, recruitment and resource management.
We are looking for a registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner with extensive surgical experience across the spectrum, with background in either routine elective lists or acute emergency CEPOD theatres at Band 6 level or equivalent, strong organisational and communication skills, and proven leadership ability. Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will:
* Provide clinical and managerial leadership and support to all multi-disciplinary and clerical staff
* Act as a role model and be a credible practitioner within the clinical area
* Assist with the management of resources in the clinical area within the agreed budget
* Manage staff performance and development through a process of appraisal, which should include a cycle of constructive performance review and the establishment of a relevant personal development plan
* Ensure all staff have had the relevant training and statutory updating regarding mandatory training, i.e. COSHH, Health and Safety, Infection Control Policy, Resuscitation, Moving and Handling, Fire Lecture and Occupational Health
* Contribute to local policy making within the agreed Trust strategy
* Implement change when necessary adopting an effective change management theory model where changes of practice affect service delivery
* Monitor/investigate incidents within the area and implement necessary actions recommended to reduce risk

Job responsibilities
* Provide clinical and managerial leadership and support to all multi-disciplinary and clerical staff
* Plan and coordinate the placement of appropriate personnel/skills across the department and other areas in the Trust
* Provide optimum use of resources communicating effectively with support services and departments
* Assist with the management of resources in the clinical area within the agreed budget

* Work closely with own team, the Matrons/Service Manager to promote good working relationships with all members of the department
* Foster and maintain effective communication and professional relationships with other departments within the Trust

Person Specification
* Registered Nurse/ Operating Department Practitioner on the appropriate part of the NMC/ Health and Care Professional Register
* Experience with recruitment and selection process
* Significant experience at Band 6 or equivalent
* Significant Theatre experience
* Proven organisational skills
* Ability to work in advisory capacity
* Demonstrate self-motivation and initiative
