Head of Health & Safety
Location: South West
Contract: 3-months ongoing
Pay: Inside IR35 - Negotiable DOE
Our client, a local authority in the South West, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Health & Safety to lead their health, safety, and well-being initiatives. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in maximizing business effectiveness while minimizing risks and losses across the council.
Key Responsibilities
1. Influence political and management planning to maximize business effectiveness.
2. Manage key risks identified by the council's risk management process.
3. Formulate and promulgate corporate health, safety, and well-being policies, procedures, and processes.
4. Directly manage professionals across three disciplines and Workplace Charter project officers, with indirect management of Public Health specialists.
5. Lead key performance indicators related to health and safety, interpreting and analyzing performance management data for continuous improvement.
6. Prepare reports for Cabinet, Corporate Leadership Team, and Health and Safety meetings.
7. Coordinate with Health and Safety Executive Inspectors and manage the health and safety services effectively.
8. Manage the operational budget and corporate budget for reasonable adjustments.
9. Act as the lead professional officer in all workplace health and safety matters, providing advice and support on complex cases.
10. Ensure proper reporting and investigation of accidents, incidents, and near misses in accordance with statutory responsibilities.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required
11. Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) achieved through a degree-level qualification or industry qualification and interview route.
12. Minimum of ten years' experience in a senior role within the specialist field(s).
13. Experience in influencing strategic planning and effective people management.
14. Strong presentation skills (oral and written) and experience in procurement and contract management.
15. Previous experience working for a Local Authority
