Operational Technology Technician
Salary: To: £40,000 depending on experience
Location: Cambridge
Travel: Within Cambridge Region; occasional travel to South Staffordshire
South Staffs Water is seeking a skilled Operational Technology Technician to join our ICS team in Cambridge. This hands-on role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting ICA (Instrumentation, Control, and Automation) systems across water distribution and treatment facilities. You’ll collaborate closely with the ICS Project Engineer to deliver reliable and efficient process control systems that support our commitment to water quality and operational excellence.
The Role:
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine maintenance and calibration of ICA systems (e.g., flow meters, pressure sensors, level transmitters, PLCs, SCADA)
Diagnose and repair faults in instrumentation and control equipment
Assist in commissioning and integrating new systems and upgrades
Support project engineers with ICA-related planning and execution
Maintain accurate documentation (maintenance logs, calibration certificates, fault reports)
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and internal teams
Provide flexible out-of-hours standby support on an ad hoc basis
Operate in line with Operational Technology standards and company integrity policies
Support ICA innovation and capital delivery processes
Represent the OT team in cross-departmental meetings
Deliver training to operational and departmental colleagues
Travel occasionally to South Staffordshire region
What You’ll Need:
Proven experience in ICA systems within the water or utilities sector
Strong understanding of electrical, instrumentation, and control principles
Ability to interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and PLC logic
Skilled in fault finding and maintaining field instruments and control panels
Familiarity with SCADA/PLC systems (e.g., Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi)
Knowledge of Safe Systems of Work, including Permit to Work and Risk Assessments
HNC/HND in a relevant engineering discipline
PC literate with strong communication skills
Knowledge of risk assessments
Full valid UK driving licence
Qualification in a water industry-related discipline - Desirable
Experience with water industry processes - Desirable
Understanding of water quality regulations - Desirable
