This is a permanent, full-time consultant post in the Dermatology Department. The post will commence as soon as possible. The successful applicant will join a team of dermatologists who work closely with the plastic surgery department to provide a skin cancer service at NBT. We also provide a general dermatology service and have close links with the dermatology department at Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI).
Applicants should have a CCT or be within six months of achieving this at the date of interview or be listed on the GMC's specialist register to be eligible for application for a substantive post. CESR applicants are welcome and must have their CESR in place at the time of interview. We are awaiting Royal College approval of the Consultant Pack.
The dermatology service is a local and regional service primarily covering Bristol and South Gloucestershire populations, but we also provide an SSMDT and accept tertiary referrals for patients with complex skin cancer in the South-West. We also deliver specialist services such as Mohs' micrographic surgery, Laser, Biologics for Eczema, Vulval dermatology, and Psychodermatology. The post-holder will join a team of 6 Consultant Dermatologists, 1 Specialty Doctor, 2 specialist nurses and 6 Resident Doctors employed at the trust.
Main duties of the job
The Dermatology Department is within the Surgical Directorate and is currently managed together with Plastic Surgery to improve skin cancer patient pathways. Currently the Dermatologists see approximately 7,500 new patients and 7,500 follow ups per year. There is a dedicated area of outpatients in the Brunel building at Southmead Hospital that houses both Dermatology, Plastic Surgery, local anaesthetic skin surgery theatres, procedure rooms and a Mohs laboratory.
The post-holder will be based at Southmead Hospital but may be asked to provide a dermatology clinic in a community setting or in another hospital location. NBT Dermatology clinics are also run at Cossham Hospital, Kingswood. The post holder may be asked to work flexibly including the consideration of evening clinics and to be a part of our teledermatology service.
