The NTC Facilities Assistant is responsible for a wide range of operational, maintenance, and safety tasks across the boathouse and lake site. Working as part of the Caversham resources team, the post‑holder will help ensure the National Training Centre operates efficiently and safely, supporting the daily needs of athletes, coaches, and staff.
Key elements of the role include boathouse support, site and lake maintenance, safety cover, and assistance with GB Rowing Team assessments and trials.
Key Responsibilities
Boathouse Operations
Support the NTC Facilities & Equipment Lead in maintaining the boathouse and equipment.
Assist with movement of boats and equipment.
Provide safety cover (training provided), including:
On‑water launch safety cover
First Aid
Fire Warden duties
Carry out site security tasks, including opening and closing the facility.
Monitor fuel levels for launches and tractors.
Undertake small maintenance tasks, basic repairs, and general indoor upkeep.
Site & Lake Maintenance
Support the upkeep of a world‑class rowing lake through:
Weed management, including preventative dyeing and aquatic weed cutting
Cleaning and alignment of course buoys, cables, and pontoons
Mowing, hedge cutting, weeding, sweeping, and general grounds maintenance
Event & Operational Support
Assist with GBRT assessments and trials, particularly those held at Caversham.
Transport boats to domestic and international locations as required.

Full UK driving licence
Desirable
Trailer‑driving experience
Experience or willingness to train in:
Tractor driving / hedge trimming
Aquatic weed cutter operation
Launch driving (RYA Level 2)
Additional Information
The role requires flexibility, including some evening, weekend, and public‑holiday working. National and international travel may be required.
The post‑holder must uphold the WADA Anti‑Doping Code and promote a drug‑free culture when working with athletes.
