Job Introduction

We're looking for an exceptional Programme Manager (Level 3) to help us make a difference to our planet.

As our Programme Manager (Level 3), the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week, but we would also consider applicants wishing to work a minimum of 30 hours per week and we will also try our best to consider those intending to work a job share. Whilst this is a temporary position for up to 18 months, there is potential for it to develop into a permanent position.

Your world of expertise

The Met Office's National Capability AI Programme (NCAI) is leveraging Artificial Intelligence to transform weather and climate data production.

AI and Machine Learning (ML) models offer faster, more cost-effective, and environmentally friendly forecasting compared to traditional methods.

This initiative aligns with the Met Office's goal to fuse simulation and data science, maintaining the UK's leadership in climate modelling.

Your key duties:

The Programme Manager (Level 3) role is part of the Project Delivery Capability Framework. Full details of expected responsibilities can be found here: PDCF Framework, with the key areas of focus in the areas of:

* Leadership, Business case, Communications & Stakeholder Management, Resource Management, Risk Management, Benefits Realisation, Programme Performance & Controls, Dependency Management and Business Change
* The role involves working externally with stakeholders such as contractors, project partners, as well as internally coordinating the work delivered through a number of teams across the Met Office.
* The role may require some travel in the UK and possible limited international travel.

As our Programme Manager (Level 3), your total reward package will be up to £89,943 annually, which includes:

* £64,846 base pay
* An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97%
* Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave

Essential Criteria, skills and experience:

* Qualifications and Experience. An experienced Programme Manager with a proven track record of successfully delivering programmes. The relevant certifications are either: Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) - Practitioner, APM Chartered Project Professional, or Project Leadership Programme. (Experts by Nature)
* Managing Complexity. Experience of delivering programmes with a high level of complexity, these are generally characterised as having a high degree of risk or uncertainty, are large in size, politically sensitive, technically complex, and with a large number of stakeholders.
* Leadership. Proven leadership and management skills, demonstrating the ability to lead and motivate multi-disciplinary teams to deliver beneficial Programme outcomes. Draw upon extensive experience to resolve a wide range of issues with differing levels of complexity. (Better Together)
* Influence. Proven ability to influence both internal and external stakeholders who are typically part of existing contractual and reporting arrangements, as well as multi-disciplinary team, working to ensure engagement and delivery of results.(Better Together)
* Communication and Collaboration. Demonstrate we are better together by having the ability to build and maintain relationships, demonstrate the professional credibility required to work collaboratively across Programme and organisational boundaries. Has experience working with strategic supplier partners. Clear, confident compelling communicator (oral, verbal, written, listening and presentation) is essential.
* Business Change - Demonstrable experience in proactively preparing for the impact of change, showing all necessary activities are planned, executed and implemented. (We live and breathe it)

Desirable Criteria:
