Description

Exciting Opportunity to Join Our Specialist Crime & Regulatory Team

We’re offering a rare chance to become part of Keoghs’ Crime & Regulatory team, a specialist team focusing on serious regulatory breaches across a variety of sectors. Our team frequently represents corporate clients, insurers, and individual directors in complex and high profile cases.

We are thrilled to open this Paralegal position to support two Lead Lawyers who handle regulatory cases and inquest work. One Lead Lawyer specialises in a range of Healthcare Inquests mainly representing care homes and mental health institutions while the other focuses on HSE investigations into regulatory breaches of workplace health, safety and welfare regulations.

This Paralegal role is ideal for someone with prior paralegal / file handling legal experience who is passionate about developing expertise in this niche area of law. If you’re eager to grow your knowledge, contribute meaningfully to impactful cases, and build your career in Crime & Regulatory law, this is the perfect opportunity.

In return, we offer hands-on experience, comprehensive guidance, and professional development tailored to your ambitions. Whether you’re looking to deepen your legal expertise or progress toward qualification, this role can provide a valuable stepping stone in your career journey.

Key Accountabilities

* Working closely with the team to help move cases forward from the moment we receive papers from our insurer clients right through to resolving the case.
* Organising meetings, conferences, site visits, and booking experts when needed.
* Keeping in touch with the Court, Coroner’s office, and regulators like the Police, HSE, and CQC.
* Attend Inquests up and down the country, alongside instructed Counsel and the client providing support and obtaining full notes of all submissions and proceedings.
* Following up on transcripts, evidence disclosures, and gathering all the information we need.
* Reviewing medical records, post-mortem reports, and CCTV footage to help build the case.
* Visiting sites to take photos and draft simple witness statements.
* Researching health and safety guidelines, as well as looking into the insured company’s structure, procedures, and documents.
* Coordinating witness availability and putting together bundles for hearings, then making sure everyone has the right paperwork.
* Going through client and prosecution evidence, organising it all, and summarising key points for the lead lawyers.
* Helping prepare for meetings and conferences by taking notes and making sure we’re all on the same page with the case strategy.
* Supporting the team at site inspections and during trials or inquests by taking notes and helping behind the scenes.

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

* Some prior experience in a similar role or environment — ideally within a legal crime team, or in another legal position where you’ve gained strong transferable skills.
* A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle, as this role requires travel.
* Experience in client liaison is a big plus.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise your workload and use your initiative.
* Great attention to detail to ensure accuracy and thoroughness.
* Comfortable working with case management systems.
* The empathy and personal skills to handle sensitive situations with insured clients respectfully and professionally.
* Excellent communication skills, both over the phone and in person, with people at all levels inside and outside the organisation.
* Ability to stay calm under pressure and adapt priorities as needed.
* Confidence in your abilities, along with good literacy and IT skills.
* A true team player who’s flexible and willing to go the extra mile to deliver excellent client service.
* Someone who works well within the Keoghs Shared Values and embraces our company culture.
