Job Description

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic person to work in our team of Geomatics Analysts. You will be working as part of a small team processing survey data to support the delivery of our National Elevation Data Programmes, using specialist software and GIS to process and quality‑control data from our state‑of‑the‑art Remote Sensing survey instrumentation, including our Airborne LIDAR Terrain Mapper.

We recognise the challenges that people with (multiple) characteristics may experience on the job market. We are fully committed to being an inclusive employer and ensuring equal opportunities, and we are keen to make our workforce as diverse as possible.

New starters to the Environment Agency are required to have an incident response role in addition to their day job. The type of roles available and the working patterns required for them are wide ranging and can be chosen by the individual. We encourage our team members to choose a role that will develop their skills and widen their experience. Day‑job support is provided to all staff so that incident response duties can be undertaken as and when their particular role requires.

The Team

The Geomatics team, within National Monitoring Survey, provides a range of specialist services, enabling effective evidence to be used across the business. This includes collection and analysis of the highest quality Lidar, Aerial Photography, Bathymetry & Satellite data. The team works with National & Area teams to co‑deliver all the monitoring requirements of the Environment Agency and the wider environmental community.

Experience / Skills Required

* You will have a relevant degree level qualification in Geography, GIS, Environment or another relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent experience with an understanding of operational applications.
* You will be able to demonstrate practical experience and broad‑ranging GIS skills using ESRI products such as ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap, and experience of working with large and complex mapping datasets, preferably Airborne LIDAR.
* Experience of processing and carrying out quality control procedures on LIDAR datasets and LIDAR derived Digital Elevation Models would be advantageous.
* You will be able to demonstrate experience in Remote Sensing techniques, analytical and problem‑solving skills and good attention to detail, either through work or your academic experiences.
* You will have good organisational skills and be highly motivated with a professional attitude.
* You must be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and to work unsupervised at times to meet challenging deadlines.

Contact and Additional Information

The National Monitoring Survey team is a national team, located at various sites around the country and as such you can be based anywhere within working proximity to an EA office.

You will be expected to travel to the Geomatics team hub base in Bath when required and you will also be expected to come into an EA office to meet the needs of our team charter, ensuring teams & colleagues are connected and continue to work well together. The post is full‑time although requests for other working patterns will be considered.

Interviews will take place in‑person at our Bath office. They will consist of a technical GIS assessment and capability questions.
